Hard to believe I am now entering my sixth year as Principal of Porter Elementary. How lucky am I to be part of such a wonderful community—where students amaze me every day, staff bring kindness, hard work, and creativity to everything they do, and parents provide constant support and partnership to help our children become their best selves.
A little bit about me (or a reminder for those who already know me well):
I am married and have two boys who attend(ed) schools in SD43.
I have been in education for almost thirty years (teacher, faculty associate at SFU, and administrator).
This is my 22nd year as a school administrator.
I’m a lifelong Vancouver Canucks fan, still holding on to the dream that the Stanley Cup will one day come to our city.
I enjoy being active, whether it’s working out or playing a round of golf.
One of my greatest joys continues to be the chance to connect—whether it’s greeting families before and after school, visiting classrooms to see the learning in action, or having students (especially our Kindergarteners) help me with my French. These are the moments that remind me why I love being here.
I am truly proud to serve as the principal of Porter Elementary. I love this school, and I love this community.
With gratitude and respect,
Mr. Ashif Jiwa
Principal
