The Black Futures program is a unique opportunity for Gr. 11 and 12 Black students from across Greater Vancouver to be introduced to post-secondary options and discussions about higher education. Last year’s program was hugely successful, and we anticipate that this year will be too. With a slogan of “if you can see it, you can be it”, it allows students to envision their academic future. Students DO NOT need to be planning on attending UBC to be a part of this program.

The program consists of five in-person meetings at UBC between Jan and May. High school students will meet with UBC students, as well as a variety of faculty and other professionals. There is no cost for students to attend. Transportation to and from UBC will be provided and students will be chaperoned by SD43 teachers. If you are interested, please see your Post Secondary and Career Advisor (Ms. David) by November 6th, so that your name can be added to the list—there are only 10 spots available, so don’t wait!

Completed applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Students who complete all three application steps can expect to receive an admission decision within approximately 2 weeks.

UBC Department of Orthopedics and BC Children's Hospital program is geared toward female students in Grade 10-12.

Students are invited to attend the annual Fall Women in Orthopedics (WORTH) workshop on Saturday October 17th, from 9 am to 12:30 pm. This workshop is open to all young women in high schools (grades 10-12), including women-identifying individuals and non-binary and gender non-conforming students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and engineering, specifically in orthopedics. We aim to provide more insight and clarity on careers particularly in the areas of orthopedics and engineering.

We have developed a half-day curriculum focused on giving information on different career paths related to Orthopedics specifically, and science and medicine generally.

The workshop will take place at BC Children’s Hospital. There will also be a virtual option.

Are you interested in a career in health care? 

Healthcare Horizons: Career Explorations is a first-of-its-kind, fully online, healthcare career exploration course for BC high school students. 

This competency-based course introduces students in grades 10 to 12 to diverse healthcare career pathways while building foundational knowledge of Canada's healthcare system and essential workplace skills. Through guided self-assessment, exploration of five healthcare career clusters, and interactive learning activities, students develop career clarity alongside core competencies in patient-centred care, professionalism, communication, clinical safety, health information literacy, and healthcare technology, culminating in a personalized education and career action plan.
