    Territorial Acknowledgement

    We acknowledge we are on the ancestral  unceded territory of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem First Nation). We thank the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm who continue to live on these lands and care for them, along with the waters and all that is above and below.

    Dr. Charles Best - 100 Year Anniversary of Insulin - read up in the Cafeteria seating area

    • Age 16 – Attended the University of Toronto to pursue medicine. Played professional basketball to finance his education.
    • Age 19 – Served in the Canadian Army during WW1.
    • Age 21 – Won a coin toss to become the assistant to Dr. Frederick Banting.
    • Age 22 - Co-discovered insulin. They sold the patent to the University for $1 to ensure worldwide access.
    • Age 23 – Dr. Banting share the Nobel Prize in Medicine with Dr. Best
    • Age 28 – University Professor and President. Honored with numerous awards and distinctions.
