3.2 What do the volunteers do? – parkrun Volunteer Hub

what is volunteering at parkrun and how do I get involved?

Volunteering is an incredibly positive, fun and rewarding way to participate at parkrun, just like walking or running.

You can volunteer directly at an event, or support outside parkrun day as a volunteer ambassador.

event volunteering

At events, the volunteer opportunities are many and varied. There is something for everyone at parkrun events; you could be setting up the course, scanning people’s barcodes at the finish or ensuring everyone gets safely around the route as a marshal. You can find a full list of the roles here.

Any volunteer who completes over 24 hrs of service will be eligible for a reference letter from the Volunteer Team – plus plenty of other perks. Applications close early May.

If you have students interested in the things below, we’d love to see them at the festival.

  • Hospitality and Customer Service
  • Tourism and Event Management
  • Visual and Performing Arts
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Work Experience requirements

We’re also especially interested in onboarding 3-4 Volunteer Recruiters per school starting January.

Our new volunteer coordinator, Deanna will be starting in the new year and will be happy to connect with new applicants, returning volunteers and teachers when she starts her position in January.

These are creative, outgoing, and organised students who work within their school to recruit more volunteers.

Volunteer Recruiters get to partake in virtual monthly meetings from February to May, receiving ongoing support and mentorship from our team.

Know any students who’d love this opportunity? Please forward their info to us, and encourage them to go to our BetterImpact Volunteer Page to submit an application.
