Indigenous Peoples in Trades Training

School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) is on the ancestral unceded territory of the kʷikʷəƛəm (Kwikwetlem First Nation).  abedlogo.97ee804511.pngThe kʷikʷəƛəm continue to live on these lands and care for them, along with the waters and all that is above and below.

The Indigenous Peoples in Trades Training Program (IPITT) provides support to SD43 students who are interested in pursuing a Career, Education or Training in Trades. School District No. 43 and the Career and Trades Programs are committed to providing equal access and opportunity for Indigenous students interested in trades. 

There are several programs and resources available for those interested in exploring or entering Trades. In partnership with the Skilled Trades BC, ACCESS Futures, Skilled Trades BC, WORK BC, and other agencies, we are able to help support students with:

  • Tuition-free Trades Training Programs 
  • Financial support for equipment and other supplies  
  • Transportation and Housing Allowances 
  • Access to child care 
  • Mentorship Programs
  • Free tutoring and learning support 
  • Free upgrading programs

Course information:

SD43 and ACCESS BC have partnered to offer students a 3-day experience where they get to explore different trades including: Carpentry, Welding, and CNC Machining. Students will also  get the opportunity to hear from a representative from ACCESS BC to share the opportunities they offer as well as connect their learnings to Indigenous Culture.

What’s Included:

  • 3 day session with hands on learning and collaboration with peers and skilled tech ed teachers
  • Breakfast and lunch
  • Transportation (must be requested in application)
  • T - shirt
