Hazel Trembath Construction Begins - Rising Up Together!
Rising Up Together: SD43 is excited to announce that construction of the new Hazel Trembath Elementary School is officially underway!
On August 24th, students, families, trustees and honoured guests gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on the new 240-seat school, which will include a neighbourhood learning centre with child care spaces.
The district will use a first-in-B.C. hybrid construction approach to accelerate the building process, with the new school anticipated to open in Winter 2027.

SD43 Board Chair, Michael Thomas
“This is a great day for the Hazel Trembath community. Today’s groundbreaking marks the beginning of construction for our new school and is an important step toward bringing our students home to Port Coquitlam.”
Mike Farnworth, MLA for Port-Coquitlam
“The loss of Hazel Trembath Elementary was deeply felt by students, families and the entire community, which is why it is so meaningful to see construction begin on its replacement. This new school, as well as other school projects underway throughout the district, will provide students with the safe, welcoming spaces they need to thrive.”
Lisa Beare, acting Minister of Infrastructure and Minister of Education and Child Care
“These projects ensure students in the Coquitlam School District have the classrooms they need to succeed.”
Jennifer Blatherwick, MLA for Coquitlam-Maillardville
“Coquitlam continues to be a destination for families because of its strong communities, great schools and quality of life. By investing in schools, we’re helping ensure students have the space and learning environments they need to learn and succeed.”
Such exciting news for the Hazel Trembath community as it rises up together and begins a meaningful new chapter!
