Information re: Wildlife
In response to what appears to be a recent increase in the number of cougar and/bear sightings in the District, please know that the school has a wildlife protocol should wild animals be seen in and around the school or neighbourhood. In the event of a wild animal sighting, schools will be put into a Shelter in Place. This means that hazards are kept outside the building while students are kept safe indoors. If students are already outside, they will be brought inside through an established protocol. Students in such a case may also be dismissed from school in a controlled manner at the end of the day in order to monitor exits for safety.
Also, if walking to school, please remind your children to:
- use well lit busier roads and walkways
- walk noisily in groups
- avoid forest paths and walking alone
SD43 staff are committed to the safety of all members of our learning community and we can all continue to be vigilant when it comes to wild animals near schools.
To report a conflict with wildlife that may threaten public safety call the Ministry of Environment Conservation Office at 1-877-952-7277.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely in the interests of school community safety.
Finally, a thank you to all our families who were able to support the Purdy's Easter Fundraising effort, it's very much appreciated!
