Welcome to Roy Stibbs Elementary School

My name is Britt Walton, and I am proud to serve as the Principal of Roy Stibbs Elementary School. Having been the Principal here for the past two years, I continue to feel grateful and inspired to be part of such a diverse, vibrant, and welcoming school community.

Roy Stibbs is more than a school; it is a hub for our community where students, families, staff, and community partners come together to learn, grow, and support one another. I am incredibly proud of the inclusive culture we have built together, where every child is valued, respected, and has a strong sense of belonging. Our students are engaged in learning through genuine curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking, and our staff are dedicated to helping every child reach their full potential.

Whether you are a student, parent, caregiver, staff member, or visitor, our goal is to work collaboratively, build positive relationships, and foster a lifelong love of learning while honouring our belief that "everyone is valued and belongs here."

Families and school staff play an essential role in fostering positive attitudes toward learning and school. Children are greatly influenced by the messages they hear and when parents, caregivers, staff speak positively about school, learning, teachers, and the value of education, children are more likely to feel connected, engaged, and confident in their own learning experiences. By prioritizing regular attendance and reinforcing the importance of school through positive conversations at home and at school, we can work together to help every child thrive. Regular school attendance at elementary school is critical to student long-term success.

Our Action Plan for Learning (APL) provides a framework for reporting student learning and identifying goals that are most relevant to our school community. This year, Roy Stibbs' APL focuses on:

• Intellectual Development To develop students’ resilience in writing
• Human and Social Development To improve students’ social communication skills by developing their ability to effectively problem-solve and resolve conflicts through respectful dialogue, active listening, and restorative approaches.
• Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Learning To foster pride and identity through oral storytelling, including Indigenous storytelling traditions, to strengthen community connections and honour shared values across generations.

Our staff work hard to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences for all students. If you have questions, concerns, or feedback, I encourage you to connect with your child's teacher through email or reach out directly to them. Strong partnerships between home and school have a powerful impact on children's engagement, well-being, and success. We also encourage families to become active members of our community by joining our Parent Advisory Council (PAC). More information can be found here. We are incredibly grateful for the important role they have in our community/school.

Nature plays an important role in children's learning and well-being. Time spent outdoors helps develop self-discipline, restore attention, and reduce stress. At Roy Stibbs, we value this connection to the outdoors and proudly embrace our "West Coast Recess and Lunch" approach. Students are outside for recesses and lunch whenever possible, unless weather conditions are extremely severe or unsafe. We appreciate your support in ensuring children come to school prepared for West Coast weather with appropriate outdoor clothing, including raincoats, boots, and umbrellas.
