Welcome to Hillcrest Middle School’s Athletic Information Page

All Hillcrest students are encouraged to join athletic teams throughout the year. It is an important part of building a sense of pride in their school. Our programs also aim to raise students's awareness in making good health and fitness choices. Below is a brief description of our expectations for students along with a season outline. All of our athletic programs follow the CMSAA Guiding Principles. First and foremost of these principles is that of a no cut policy. This means that all middle school athletes who commit to a team will have the opportunity to participate. Exemptions to this principle can be made based on factors other than ability such as: attendance, commitment, academics, attitude and behavior. We endeavor to offer a wide range of athletic programs for students. However, athletic activities offered are contingent upon student interest and the availability of coaches.

Grade 6 Athletics

Our grade six program is run largely as an intra-mural program with occasional games/tournaments being offered outside of the school. The program is run at lunch time and includes volleyball and basketball. Additional sports are offered on an ad hoc basis. These may include floor hockey, badminton etc. Grade 6 athletes can also participate in our wrestling, rugby, and track and field programs.

Grade 7/8 Athletics

For the grade seven and eight athletes, we run a wide range of programs. The seasons are sport specific and are listed below. As various schedules are made for each sport, they will be uploaded to our Athletics page. Each coach will send home a permission form that details their specific expectations and practice requirements. Typically speaking, each sport will have 2-3 practices a week. These can be before school, during lunch, or after school.
