National Portfolio Day - Emily Carr

When: Saturday, November 21st from 11am - 3pm

Where: Emily Carr University of Art & Design - 520 East 1st Ave

What: National Portfolio Day is a unique opportunity for emerging artists and designers to share their work with representatives from accredited art and design schools. Students bring their portfolio—finished pieces, works-in-progress or sketchbooks—and receive direct, constructive feedback from faculty or admissions professionals.

This undergraduate event is designed for high school students considering post-secondary art or design studies, college students looking to transfer and anyone preparing to apply to a creative program. Attendees can meet with multiple schools in one place, ask questions about programs, facilities and admissions requirements, and gain insight into how to strengthen their portfolio for success.

Forum for Young Canadians National Summit 2027

What: Forum 2027 will welcome 300 youth (aged 15-18) from across Canada to Ottawa for three week-long sessions of behind-the-scenes access to Parliament Hill, conversations with decision-makers, and hands-on simulations of the democratic process.

BCIT - Preparation for Nursing Education for High School Students

When: Sept 15 - Nov 17 on Tuesdays from 6pm - 9pm

Where: BCIT Burnaby NW04 Rm 2080

What: This course is open to anyone interested in exploring and pursuing a career in nursing. This course aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to nursing through a combination of theoretical and practical learning opportunities. Students will be introduced to the profession of nursing and the healthcare environment while developing the academic skills that are necessary for post-secondary success. This course provides an introduction to professionalism and communication in healthcare, medical terminology, nursing care, the healthcare environment, and quality and safety. It also introduces concepts of respect, diversity, and inclusivity. This course is delivered in person, offering hands-on experience in a lab/simulation setting.

Cost: $401.29 for domestic students (3.4x the price for international students)

SFU Science Al!ve - Hour++ of Code (Online workshops for high school students)

What: Hour Plus Plus of Code features various workshops for high school-age students to learn how to code and implement digital tools.

Join us in Fall 2026 for Hour++ of Code! Sign up for 1 workshop, a few, or all 9!

  1. September 26: Intro to Python - learn the basics of the Python programming language and best practices (beginner friendly!)
  2. October 3: Intro to Machine Learning - create machine learning programs in Python (Python experience encouraged)
  3. October 17: UI/UX Design - create designs for mobile and web interfaces (beginner friendly!)
  4. October 24: NEW Debugging - understand the process of finding and fixing errors (or "bugs") in computer code (Python experience required)
  5. October 31: NEW Sprite Development - learn about pixel art and create your very own sprite, a 2D digital character (beginner friendly!)
  6. November 7: Web Dev, Pt 1 (Intro to HMTL/CSS) - join us for 3 workshops to learn the basics of developing your own website (beginner friendly!)! Students who join all 3 Web Dev workshops will receive a certificate
  7. November 14: Web Dev, Pt 2 (Intro to JavaScript) - join us for 3 workshops to learn the basics of developing your own website! Students who join all 3 Web Dev workshops will receive a certificate

Marine Careers Expo

When: September 26, 2026 from 11am - 4pm

Where: The Shipyards, North Vancouver

What: The Marine Careers Expo is a national initiative that brings together Government of Canada organizations, marine employers, and educational institutions to connect with communities across Canada. Hosted in partnership with the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Marine Careers Foundation, and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Expo features interactive exhibits, engagement with marine professionals, and opportunities to explore careers on the water.

BC Children's Hospital - Mini Med School 2026

What: Join us for Mini Med School 2026 - Inside the Human Body, presented by Co-Deans Dr. Jonathan Bush & Dr. Kevin Harris. Together, we will take a journey through the body, exploring how it works from the inside out. Through engaging discussions and real-world connections, you will gain a deeper understanding of the science behind how our bodies operate and the many ways this knowledge is used in health and medicine.

UBC Website Research Participation Survery

For: Ages 16-21 who do not attend UBC

What: We regularly run research studies to improve the experience for those who visit you.ubc.ca. You can sign up to express interest in participating these research studies. Participants will help shape you.ubc.ca. Research participants are asked to participate in activities like: surveys and completing tasks online while talking through your approach. Get a gift card for your time!

Douglas College - Math Circles Enrichment Program

What: Math Circles is a weekly enrichment program for motivated students. Through engaging instruction and hands-on problem solving, students will explore math topics outside the school curriculum and practice mathematical thinking in a fun, supportive and low pressure environment. Math circles is ideal for students who are interested in exploring and discovering mathematics.

UBC Geering Up - Engineering Design Competition for High School students

When: Saturday November 21st, 2026 from 10am - 3pm

Where: UBC Orchard Commons 

What: The ocean is full of mysteries waiting to be discovered. For thousands of years, humans have engineered vessels to explore our waters, from the earliest boats over 50,000 years ago to today's advanced ships and submarines. In this engineering design competition, you'll dive into the world of marine engineering and create innovative solutions for exploring and navigating the seas. As you design an ocean-going vessel, you'll also discover that great engineering goes beyond performance. Marine engineers must consider how their designs affect the hydrosphere and the ecosystems that depend on it. Can you engineer a vessel that is both innovative and environmentally responsible? 

Cost: $10 entry

What: Interested in Marketing? Events? Or Research? We have a few options that you can pick up as a personal project and help make an impact in our community. For up to 11 weeks over the weekends (must be available Saturday, Sunday, or both from 11 am - 5 pm— with some exceptions e.g., evening events) , have a chance to represent the museum and develop your own sense of leadership, confidence and purpose.

BC Children's Hospital - Pathways to Science

What: Join us for Pathways to Science, a free online program designed to help high school students explore career pathways and strengthen foundational scientific skills. Held once a month between September 2026 - June 2027, you will hear directly from researchers and health professionals in science and medicine. You will explore how scientific discoveries are made, learn about different education and career pathways, and gain insight into what it's really like to work in research and healthcare. Whether you are already considering a career in health sciences or simply curious, this series is designed to help you explore your interests and better understand the opportunities and foundational skills needed in STEM.

UBC Women in Orthopaedics (WORTH) workshop

When: Saturday,  October 17th from 9 am to 12:30 pm

Where: BC Children’s Hospital. There will also be a virtual option.

What: This workshop is open to all young women in high schools (grades 10-12), including women-identifying individuals and non-binary and gender non-conforming students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and engineering, specifically in orthopaedics. We aim to provide more insight and clarity on careers particularly in the areas of orthopaedics and engineering.

Minerva Learning to Lead -ONLINE program

What: Learning to Lead is a leadership opportunity for self-identified girls in grades 10-12. Participants gain confidence through interactive workshops and activities within a fun and supportive community of friends and mentors! Learning to Lead teaches youth leadership skills through confidence building, creating connections and mentor support. One alumna will be awarded the Youth Leadership Award ($1,000 bursary)
One alumna will receive a full scholarship to the Shad Canada Summer Program!

What: The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University is hosting our exclusive on-campus event called Discover SFU Beedie, designed to give your high school students a first-hand look at what it means to study business at SFU. 

At this event, students will have the chance to:

  1. Experience a sample university lecture led by one of our esteemed Business instructors
  2. Engage in a live student panel where SFU Beedie students share their personal journeys, insights, and advice
  3. Enjoy lunch at our Dining Commons (on us!)
  4. Participate in a mini business pitch competition, collaborate with like-minded high school students across the Lower Mainland, and win some great prizes
  5. Explore the SFU Burnaby campus with an optional tour
  6. Bonus: Attending this event can certainly be used on the Supplemental Application!

Registration for this event is now open and closes on October 5th. Seats are limited – we will only be selecting 80 students to attend. Students will be required to fill out a registration form outlining their academic and extracurricular achievements.

What: Shad isn’t just a summer program. It’s a life-changing experience that inspires students to explore their passions, build leadership, and connect with a community of dreamers and doers. Through hands-on STEAM learning, real-world challenges, and lifelong friendships, Shad empowers the next generation of leaders to see what’s possible and gives them the confidence to make it happen.

Who: High school students currently completing Gr. 10 & 11 that are curious, creative, community-minded and ready to make an impact.

What: Healthcare Horizons: Career Exploration is a first-of-its-kind, fully online, healthcare career exploration course for BC High school students. This competency-based course introduced students in Gr. 10-12 to diverse healthcare career pathways while building foundational knowledge of Canada's healthcare system and essential workplace skills. Through self-guided self-assessment, exploration of five healthcare career clusters, and interactive learning activities, students develop career clarity alongside core competencies of patient-centered care, professionalism, communication, clinical safety, health information literacy, and healthcare technology, culminating in a personalized education and career action plan. An optional one-day immersive experience will be offered at BCIT's Health Sciences Centre in Burnaby, where students tour state-of-the-art facilities, participate in hands-on activities, and connect with instructors and current students.
