When are Band and Choir Classes?

Beginning Band – Mondays and Thursdays, 7:40 – 8:30am 
First class with no instruments Thurs. Sept. 17

Advanced Band – Tuesdays and Fridays, 7:40 – 8:30am 
First class with instruments and method book 2 Tuesday, Sept. 15

Choir – Wednesdays 7:45 – 8:30am Sign up in Music Room (even returning students)
First class Wednesday, Sept. 23

Strings Club: September – December (one lunch/week) Sign up in Music Room

*NEW! Jazz Band: February – June 2027 (one lunch / week, Adv. Band Members)
 
*All members in a Performance Class or Music Clubs will be added to a Microsoft Team. These are really important for practicing communicating, keeping informed of dates and details and a great place for members to ask questions, or answer questions. 
Members of these classes and clubs are expected to check Teams regularly.

How do I sign up for Beginning Band?

First step is to fill in the EMM Beginning Band form to choose your instrument. (link below)

It’s first come, first choice of instrument. Please understand that a Band must be BALANCED considering specific types of instruments and number of each instrument, as some are quieter than others.
 
It is strongly recommended that you and your child watch the videos on the form before choosing your instrument, as the sound of a particular instrument may really inspire your child rather than choosing an instrument based on size and convenience. (small instruments are not always easy to play!)

EMM link live Sept.5: EMM Beginning Band Sign-Up Form 2026 - 2027 – Fill out form

After you complete the EMM form to secure your instrument, Long & McQuade’s rental link will pop up. If you complete their form by Sept. 15^th, they will deliver it to EMM for your convenience in time for Squeeks and Squawks (Tuesday, Sept. 22^nd 6:00 – 7:30pm).
*Remember to purchase Essential Elements method book 1 along with your rental.
Please note: This year we will not have an Instrument Rental Night with Long and McQuade
 

What is Squeeks and Squawks? It is the student’s First important Lesson on their instrument
Tuesday, September 22^nd @ 6:00 – 7:30pm Meet in the Music Room to pick up your instrument and method book. Each instrument starts in their own classroom for their first lesson.
We collaborate with Heritage Woods Secondary Senior Band members. They volunteer to teach your children how to put together, make a sound, play their first 3 notes and care for their instrument. 🫶🏼We appreciate HWSS so much for this valuable experience and positive start to an exciting journey!! You should not miss out. After this 1 hour lesson (and seeing who else chose your instrument), students gather in the gym to form a band and play simple music learning to follow a conductor. This is very memorable for them and we invite all parents to return to EMM at 7:05pm for this mini “First Concert” of 15 minutes and cheer on our musicians!

District Festival: Choir Day – Wednesday, May 5 (fieldtrip)
District Festival: Beginning Band Day – Wednesday, May 19 (fieldtrip)

Grade 6 for Half a Day - Thursday June 3
Spring Band, Choir and Jazz Band Concert – June 10^th 6:30pm / 11^th (AM assembly)
 
*Auditions for Advanced Band will be in June
