Parkland Community Update for November 4, 2020

Good Afternoon Parkland Community,

A few announcements and reminders as we head into the end of the week.

Attached is the November PAC Newsletter.

School Photo Ordering & Retake Day – Monday, November 9th

A reminder, all families should have received a Web Code Flyer from Mountain West studios which was sent home early this week. All ordering for photos will be done online using the code you were provided by clicking here "How to Order". If you need assistance with the code, please contact the office at 604-939-1151 or email our secretary Ms. Winterlik at cwinterlik@sd43.bc.ca and she will be happy to help.

Photo retakes will be happening on Monday, November 9th in the morning – please let your child's teacher know if you would like a retake.

Remembrance Day Assembly – Tuesday, November 10th – 10:35-11:15 AM

We will be recognizing Remembrance Day on Tuesday, November 10th. The school district is hosting a virtual assembly - all Parkland classes will be adjusting our break times so all our classes can watch and participate in the district assembly. Families will also be invited to attend online; I will forward a code once I receive it and you will be able to watch the assembly alongside our classes.

Remembrance Day is on Wednesday, November 11th and school is not in session.

The Poppy Campaign & Holiday Hampers

As you know, we are being mindful of the amount we are asking families to put out in terms of fundraising or donations. We are also cognizant of the importance our contributions are to our local community for helping those around us in need. We will be opening up two initiatives on SchoolCashOnline for any families who are in a place right now to donate to two annual events. We want to offer a contactless option for families to donate with the hopes of helping out any way our school community can right now.

Poppy Donations

The first community fundraising initiative is for Poppy Donations to commemorate Veteran's Week and Remembrance Day.

“The Poppy Campaign is very much a local initiative, conducted by Legion Branches in cities, towns and communities across the country. Donations collected during the Poppy Campaign are held in Trust at the branch level to directly support Veterans and their families within their community and to help ensure Canadians 'never forget'. Learn more about how your donations help Veterans."

We will be collecting any cash donations on November 10th in a safe manner, but we are also offering an opportunity to contribute through SchoolCashOnline for any families who would prefer to donate online to the Poppy Campaign.

Holiday Hamper Donations

The second community fundraising initiative is to help families in need during the holidays in our community. Families will be able to contribute in two ways during the lead up to the holiday season:

  1. Through SchoolCashOnline for families who would prefer to donate online

  1. We will be offering a contactless Holiday Drop Off tent set up in front of the school during the week of December 7th to 11th. You or your student will be able to drop off any items in a safe way on the way to the Meeting Area in the morning. A full list on recommended items will be sent out closer to the date.

Once again, I would like to emphasize that these initiatives are completely optional and only contribute if you are in a position to do so. We as a school community have done important work together helping those in need and it's important we continue our supportive work as much as we can.

Neufeld Farms, Purdy's Ordering & Snack Bags

A reminder that the Neufeld Farms is open for ordering. Please visit the Parkland PAC Facebook Page for more information. Ordering is being organized through the MUNCH-A-LUNCH PAGE.

Our PAC has organized a Purdy's Holiday Order – orders will be taken online here: PURDY'S SEASONAL FUNDRAISING PAGE where you will be prompted to create an account before placing an order. You'll be receiving a catalogue in the next few days with more information.

Finally, with snacks and lunches being eaten in the classroom with teachers and packaging being returned home for recycling, the PAC has organized a reusable snack bag order – more information can be found on your SchoolCashOnline account.

Finally, about Traffic Safety on Regan Avenue

Please be mindful about traffic safety during drop off and pick up – particularly when crossing Regan Avenue. The crosswalk is in place to give pedestrians a predictable spot to cross where drivers can expect people to be crossing and exercise due care. It also offers an opportunity to teach your student(s) healthy habits about proper traffic safety, something they will use when they get to an age when they begin to walk independently in their neighbourhood.

Wishing everyone all the best for the rest of this week.
