Halloween 2020

Tomorrow, Friday, October 30th will be “Halloween" at Parkland. I'm resending some information I shared with families last week to be mindful of. You'll also find a parent message from the superintendent of schools attached outlining the district's expectations around Halloween.

Some reminders and points to keep in mind:

COSTUMES

This year, costumes will need to be worn throughout the day. Please remember, parents will not be able to enter the school to help with costumes and teachers will not be able to help with costumes. My suggestion – only have your child wear what they can manage this year. This may be only part of their costume.

Halloween themed shirts and colours is an option I would encourage this year if your child's costume may be difficult to wear for the entire day.

WASHROOM USE FOR CHANGING

Washroom use is controlled, so we can't have students heading in there to get dressed up. Please have your child wear what they are going to wear to school for the day.

APPROPRIATENESS

No weapons or things that look like weapons. No glamorization of gang or drug culture. Nothing that could be deemed racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or offensive.

FOOD/CANDY

Schools have strict guidelines that there is no sharing or exchange of food items, including individually packaged food. Do not send any treats for distribution to classmates. Your teacher may have a time in the day where your child may be able to have a special Halloween snack time – this will need to be something you pack for your child, to be consumed by your child.

School Photo Ordering & Retake Day – November 9^th

All families should have received a Web Code Flyer from Mountain West studios which was sent home early this week. All ordering for photos will be done online using the code you were provided by clicking here "How to Order". If you need assistance with the code, please contact the office at 604-939-1151 or email our secretary Ms. Winterlik at cwinterlik@sd43.bc.ca and she will be happy to help.

Photo retakes will be happening on Monday, November 9^th in the morning – please let your child's teacher know if you would like a retake.

Remembrance Day Assembly – Tuesday, November 10^th – 10:35-11:15 AM

We will be recognizing Remembrance Day on Tuesday, November 10th. The school district is hosting a virtual assembly - all Parkland classes will be adjusting our break times so all our classes can watch and participate in the district assembly. Families will also be invited to attend online; I will forward a code once I receive it and you will be able to watch the assembly alongside our classes.

Remembrance Day is on Wednesday, November 11^th and school is not in session.

Neufeld Farms Fundraising Ordering

A reminder that the Neufeld Farms Fundraiser is open for ordering. Please visit the Parkland PAC Facebook Page for more information. Ordering is being organized through the MUNCH-A-LUNCH PAGE.

Finally, Pick Up and Drop Off Reminders

A few reminders for our families during drop off and pick up:

• During pick up and drop off, please be mindful to stay physically distant from other families and students. There has been some congestion in some areas at the back of the school; please make sure to allow space between yourself and the people around you.
• Students should go to their Meeting Areas when they arrive to school and not mix with students from other Learning Groups.
• Once students are dismissed from their meeting areas for the day, please leave the school grounds as quickly as possible.

It's up to all of us in our school community to make sure we're all vigilant and careful to continue to make health and safety a priority during this time.
