Parkland Community Update for Sept 9, 2020

September 10, 2020

Dear Parkland Families,

A few reminders & announcements as we head into the next two days and next week:

Daily Health Check

Starting on Thursday, before your child comes to school, please conduct a health check using the Daily Health Check (attached) for any of the symptoms on the list. If your child has any of those symptoms, please contact the office to confirm their absence, and please keep them home. Students will receive a paper copy on Friday for you to sign and return the bottom portion to the school on Monday.

Thursday and Friday

Please see the attached schedule for the outline of what tomorrow and Friday will look like Parkland students & families.

Physical Distance

Please make sure your children maintain physical distance on September 10th and 11th from other children and families. Students will not be in their learning groups (classes) until Monday September 14th.

My child may miss the Attendance Check on September 10th and/or the Health and Safety Orientation on September 11. What should we do?

While we would like to have all of our students attend their orientation session as it allows them to ask questions and get a sense of how the school will look and operate with our health and safety protocols, we understand that some students may not be able to. If your child cannot attend their Return to School September 2020 Safety orientation, please submit an absence report by clicking here ABSENCE REPORT or by visiting our webpage here PARKLAND HOMEPAGE stating that they cannot attend but they will be attending school at Parkland. On Friday, September 11, we will post a health and safety guide power point for students on our website for families to review

Creative Packs

Creative Packs will be available for pick up tomorrow (Thursday) at the front of the school by the front parking lot. Families who ordered a Creative Pack are welcome to visit the table we will have set up and we will have your supplies ready for pick up. Any Creative Packs not picked up will be held for students until Friday or Monday.

How will I know who my child's teacher is for Monday?

Late on Friday or over the weekend you will receive an email from your child's new teacher for this school year, welcoming them to their new learning groups and letting them know where to meet on Monday. These learning groups are fixed and can not be changed.

Masks

Students are not required to wear masks at this time, but you are more than welcome to send your child with a mask.

Schools are to follow the guidelines established by the Provincial Health Officer and Ministry of Education. When we are back to school, starting with the student orientations, we will be addressing physical distancing and masks with a tone of how we each take responsibility for the care of one another.

FAQ's specific to the School Based Supports Gradual Supports Transition Option (SBGST)

If I have informed the administration that my child will participate in the SBGST option, must they attend school September 10 and 11?

No. Please have your child review the health and safety guide power point for students on our website.

When will I receive the first learning package?

The school district is in the process of hiring the teachers to support this option. The first package will not be available for at least 2 weeks.
