After more than 40+ years as a teacher and principal, Ms. Arnold is retiring. Ms. Arnold started teaching in her home town of Duncan on Vancouver Island when she was still just 20 years old. She had 37 sweet grade ones in her first class and quickly realized that she needed more education if she was to increase the life chances of each and every child. Ms. Arnold ran back to university that summer and has kept on learning completing her degrees at UVic and UBC before becoming a literacy support teacher and finally an administrator for the past 15 years. It is that love of learning and the connection with children as a servant leader that has sustained her throughout her career.
She is looking forward to doing more travelling and having fun with her 3 fantastic grandchildren. Ms. Arnold has already sailed up the coast of Australia, in the Caribean, the Mediterranean and the coastal waters and she plans other adventures now that she has even time to explore. Ms. Arnold promises to come back and visit because the memories she has shared with students, families and communit here are so very special. As John Lennon crooned, 'Count your years by smiles not tears.' We will remember her as someone who made a huge difference in the lives of so many over the years. Thank you Ms. Arnold. We shall miss your caring and your deep abiding committment to the creation of strong and healthy Educated Citizens.
