Grade 8 Parents-Leaving Ceremony Information

February 17, 2021

Sent on behalf of the Gr. 8 Leaving Ceremony Parent Committee…..

Hi Grade 8 Parents,

We agreed to chair the Grade 8 Leaving Ceremony Committee and are reaching out today to share plans as they stand and invite you to participate on the Committee. In-person activities this year are restricted to 45 minutes per class group in the gym on a to-be-determined date in June. We have reviewed a general plan with Principal McCutcheon that has two main parts:

  1. A video compilation of interviews with the grads, that will run in the background at the gym event and be made available in its entirety to all grads after the event. The shared file will also include photos taken by parent volunteers at the grad events.
  2. Class visits to a number of photo stations in the gym on event day.

We can manage both of the above while maintaining COVID protocols, and they will result in photo and video documentation for the grads, which seems particularly desirable in the absence of a yearbook this school year.

A preliminary plan is available for review and comment at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hge4x6l6WeDodSVFpbwRi1F2zBQdLPwz/view?usp=sharing. As a next step, we'd like to schedule a Zoom meeting with parents who are interested in participating on the planning committee. Please visit https://doodle.com/poll/qwky8p3vf87gtwfi?utm_source=poll&utm_medium=link by end of day on Saturday, February 20th  to indicate your availability if you're able to participate. Ideally, we'd like to have one parent from each class (note: both of our kids are in Mme. O'Neill/Mme. Chady's class) commit to being a primary organizer for that group on the day of the event and one parent from each class commit to being a photographer on the day of the event. This will help to minimize the number of people scheduled to be in the gym at each individual class event (note that at this time, we expect that all parents will be able to attend the gym events with their grads, but of course this is subject to change based on directives from the School District and Provincial Health Authority). Beyond that, it would be great to have 1-2 people commit to organization of each themed photo station.

If you have any questions, or if you would like to help out but are not able to attend a Zoom meeting, please do not hesitate to contact either or both of us. Looking forward to working with all of you to make this a special time for our kids!

Cheers,

Hello Gr. 8 Parents,

The Maillard Middle Grade 8 Leaving Ceremony Parent Committee has begun to planning this year's event with all its unique variables. They have created a link for parents to contribute thoughts and ideas. The goal is the make the event meaningful and memorable for our Gr. 8 students as they have missed out on the benefits of being Grade 8 at Middle School.

Please take the time to share your thoughts through the link below and help of the committee.
