Math can easily sneak its way into your holiday activities! Here are some powerful ways to practice some real-world math with your kids:
1. Give your child the responsibility to buy gifts for people in your family and a reasonable budget with which to do so. Make sure they plan, collect prices and purchase!
2. Wrapping paper estimation! Work with your children to solve major wrapping paper problem: How can we wrap gifts well without wasting too much paper and tape?
3. Decorating with patterns! Give your child the responsibility of decorating a part of the house. To make decorating about math, make sure they plan to set up the decorations to be in some sort of a pattern or using some sort of pleasing symmetry. Make sure you ask all about their choices.
