SD43 is planning an EMERGENCY RELEASE DAY, are you #SD43Ready?
Date: THURSDAY, MAY 14 at 2:00pm
This event is district-wide and occurs close to the majority of regular dismissal times to facilitate planning and preparation for district families to make suitable arrangements.
In the event of a major emergency, it may become necessary to release students from school before the regularly scheduled time. A successful emergency release protocol requires preparation now, including a 'practice run' to help ensure a smooth procedure should such a release become necessary.
Preparation involves IMPORTANT ACTION on the part of Parent/Guardians:
- Parents/Guardians must complete the Student Emergency Release Form (attached) and return it to their school(s) as quickly as possible, if they have not already done so.
- This form provides information to the school that identifies your child, siblings, and adult individuals that your child may be released to in the event of an emergency.
- Often a responsible adult that is named in this document is different than an 'emergency contact' that may be listed in school records. This individual should live nearby, preferably within walking distance, and be able to pick up your child in the event of an emergency release situation. Such an individual may be a neighbour or parent/guardian from the school, for example.
- It is critical that such information is kept at the school in the event of an emergency release situation, like an earthquake or fire, that requires students be escorted off school property.
Detailed information specific to your school's emergency release plan will be provided in the coming weeks from your administrator.
Reminders will be posted on district and school websites, as well as social media channels.
This protocol drill will serve as a valuable exercise that will test our procedures and provide a learning experience to refine these protocols.
Childcare operators on district properties may choose to participate but are not required to do so. Parents/guardians should connect with their provider.
Please complete this form as soon as possible and send via email to your school. Email addresses for schools are located on the top of each school website. To find your school website, you may click here.
If you have any questions or concerns not addressed in the Student Emergency Release Form package, please email your school principal.
