I am so sorry that all our families are struggling to make alternate arrangements for their children. The teachers, support staff and I share your frustration and wish that school was starting in the normal fashion.
I have had many calls asking when school will start and I wish I could tell you the answer, but I can’t. All I can recommend is that you continue to watch and read the news, check the District website (www.sd43.bc.ca) and Roy Stibbs website (www.sd43.bc.ca/elementary/roystibbs/) and your email. As soon as I have any information regarding school start (including first day and Kindergarten gradual hours) I will email you any details and put the information on our website.
Many parents are also asking about the $40 per child under 13 funding. This application needs to be entered on the ministry website. There is a section that asks for your child’s PEN #. This is an optional section, you do not need to fill this in. Your application will be accepted without this information. If you need the PEN # you would be required to contact me, but remember you don’t need it.
As a reminder here is the website information I sent you before. I am including last year’s grade 5’s in our emails, although you will likely be getting this information from your child’s middle school.

Although you apply for the funding now, the government will not issue payment (cheque) until after the teacher dispute is settled. They need to know how many days the teachers were not here in order to calculate how much money you will get. My understanding is that you will not receive your money until approximately 30 days AFTER the teachers are back at school.
