We are currently recruiting for individuals with flexible schedules who are self-motivated, responsible and team players to work for in the Parks division for seasonal assignments. Our 2024 auxiliary or part time Labourer 2’s must enjoy working outdoors, performing regular physical activity that is often repetitive in nature in all types of weather. You must further have the physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy labour intensive manual work. If you are looking to perform a variety of construction and maintenance tasks, while also having an opportunity to utilize your skills in operating power and hand tools, we look forward to your application!
 
These positions will work in a variety of Parks Operations sections including our Sport Services, Urban Forestry, Infrastructure, Landscape and Park Spark teams. Examples of duties include:
 
Horticulture/Turf Care Labourer - cutting and maintaining lawns and grounds; planting and maintaining perennials and annuals. Other duties could include assisting in the maintenance of various landscaped, horticultural and turf areas in parks.
 
Sport Services Labourer – maintenance at our Percy Perry Stadium and fields. Other duties may include the delivery and clean-up of event supplies and litter in parks and trails.
 
Urban Forestry – invasive plant removal, planting and maintaining habitat restoration sites, public education and outreach.
 
Infrastructure – park litter control, maintaining and cleaning park playgrounds, fencing, benches and pathways.
 
Park Spark Team  volunteer outreach, Inspiration Garden care and volunteer support
 
Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed some high school education.
  • Experience in general construction and maintenance work, preferably in a position equivalent to that of a Labourer 1.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including daytime, evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License (with satisfactory driving record).

 
Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant work or volunteer experience involving general labour with landscaping, urban forestry, or infrastructure maintenance or construction.
  • Education and/or training in landscape maintenance, construction, public outreach events, equipment operations.
  • Experience in driving a truck, operating lawn mowers, line trimmers, and other equipment used in landscaping, construction, or urban forestry.
  • Experience with customer service and volunteer engagement


 What We Offer:
 This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $33.25 plus 12% in lieu of benefits.

PROGRAM SUMMARY: Eagle Ridge Hospital has offered an opportunity for high school students to volunteer as logistical support team members. The purpose of the team is to provide support for the hospital's ongoing project, as well as special events. VolunTeen program allows all students between 16 to 18 years old to get involved with the patient, public, and provider in a hospital environment. The goal is to assist when and where needed to ensure the hospital units and manor operate smoothly.

 

PURPOSE OF ROLE:  To provide hospital and long-term care logistical support services that releases time for healthcare practitioners to care for the patients we serve.  

 

LOCATION:  Check-In at VR Department, servicing ERH and ERM

 

TIME:  4:30 – 7:00 p.m.

 


 

RESPONSIBILITIES:          

  • Arrive on time
  • Sign-in and Put on Uniform
  • Report to VR Department – Main Office
  • Attend Team Briefing
  • Receive assignment for your shift

 

LOGISTICAL DUTIES:

  • Collecting Chart Binders (from daily unit discharges – all units)
  • Collecting Clip Boards (from Zone 2 ED)

Planning & Engagement:
Plan and implement the daily programming of skill development, games, and other activities to your group; participate in planning special events/activities for the group or whole camp as part of the staff team including meetings; share lunch time with group, ensures campers enjoy their meal and contribute to cleanup; build and foster relationships with campers in your group and be aware of individual needs, special needs, and health concerns.

Health & Safety:
Adhering to and enforcing all camp safety plans and return camp operating guidelines; follow health guidelines/measures where required; and enter and supervise campers in the swimming pool during the afternoon.

Set a good example for campers, staff & volunteers by being conscientious and supportive of policies.​

Summer School 2024
Volunteer Positions
School District No. 43 (Coquitlam)’s International Education Program is seeking volunteers for its
Summer School Programs from July 8 – August 9, 2024.  International students participate in English 
as a Second Language classes in the morning and may also participate in afternoon cultural 
activities.  The cultural activities afternoon is an opportunity for students from overseas to 
experience Canadian culture by participating in group and team activities and tours and by 
exploring the beautiful outdoors of the Lower Mainland area of BC. Alternately, international 
students may enroll in credit courses and be working toward graduation requirements instead.

Volunteers are an important component of the International Education Program’s Summer School. We have a number of different opportunities for volunteers to work with students in the ESL classes, 
computer classes, credit courses, and sometimes in the cultural activities component of the program.
Requirements
The successful candidate would ideally:
•       be enrolled as a student in Grade 10, 11, or 12 in a secondary school in School District 
No. 43 (Coquitlam)
•       be seeking admission to a university education program
•       possess leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
•       be proficient with the English language
•       have experience with a second language

Note:  first aid certification, experience working with international students, and knowledge of 
Mandarin, Spanish or Korean are assets. Students outside of the aforementioned criteria will also 
be considered.

If you or someone you know is interested, please send us an application by June 14, 2024.  The 
volunteer hours may be used towards graduation, if you are in grade 10-12. A letter will be provided you at the end.

We wish to invite students to volunteer for the Children's Festival. Students interested in Hospitality, Tourism, Event Management, Arts, Performance, or Childhood Education are particularly encouraged to apply, but there are positions at every level. Volunteers can sign up now on our website for a minimum two-shift (14 hr) commitment.

 

We are especially interested in onboarding a few Key Volunteers right away, who can begin working within your school to recruit and screen more volunteers. KVs generally work around 20 hrs in advance of the Festival, and then transition into Crew Captain roles onsite during the Festival. Serving as a KV and/or Crew Captain provides very strong leadership and communications experience, plus being creative and fun. Any Volunteer who completes over 30 hrs of service will receive a personal reference letter from the Festival.

Strategic Partnership Assistants will stay in-the-loop with fellow organizations that can help us educate about overdose while creating community engagement

The Hoy/Scott Watershed Society is looking for volunteers to support our salmon hatchery and the salmon enhancement work that we do as stewards of Hoy and Scott Creeks.

Examples of how volunteers can get involved:

  • Adult salmon broodstock capture including fish trap and fish fence maintenance

  • Salmon rearing: egg to fry release.

  • Daily feeding or weekly maintenance

  • Invasive species pulls and habitat restoration

  • Talking to the public at open houses or community events

  • Conduct education sessions for school or community groups

  • Stream invertebrate survey

  • Monitor water quality

  • Storm drain marking of city streets that flow into creeks.

Whatever your skills or experience, each one of us uses our work with the Society to give back, learn and experience more.  We learn from each other.  We try to develop skills and experience by taking responsibility for activities and events and can be guided by others that have more experience.  In some cases, we can even launch a new program based on members wanting to drive the creation of a program.

The English Learning Buddy Program is a volunteer program to teach English to girls in India from low-income families who lack opportunities to practice speaking English. The time commitment is 30 minutes per week for 10 weeks. Tutoring sessions are conducted by video conference between 7 pm PST to 10 pm PST. We provide you with a lesson plan and learning resources. At the end of the 10 week program, you will receive volunteer hours and feedback on how your volunteering has helped your Learner to improve her English.
