βSchool District No. 43 (Coquitlam) celebrated the top-eight finalists of the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program at an event held at Simon Fraser University on December 1.
The top-eight finalists were recognized at the event which featured numerous special guests including new SD43 Board of Education Chair Kerri Palmer Isaak and Vice-Chair Carol Cahoon along with Trustees Judy Shirra, Michael Thomas and Barb Hobson, Dr. Robin Brayne from SFU's Faculty of Education who served as emcee of the event, Dr. Joy Johnson, SFU Vice President of Research and International, SFU Faculty of Applied Science Dean pro tem Uwe Glaesser, SFU Faculty of Science Dean Claire Cupples, and SFU Education Acting Dean David Patterson.
Also in attendance from SD43 were Superintendent Patricia Gartland, Assistant Superintendent Reno Ciolfi, Community Relations Manager Peter Chevrier, and the SSEP project lead team consisting of Michelle Ciolfitto, Wooje Choi and Brent Raabe.
Each of the students involved in the top-eight finalist proposals received certificates of recognition, while the top-three finalists presented brief overviews of their proposed experiments.
The winning proposal, to be selected among the top-three finalists, will be announced on December 15.
