After winning gold medals at the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair last month, three SD43 students competed at the Canada-Wide Science Festival (CWSF) on May 14 in Montreal.
All three students won top prizes, achieving a gold, a silver, and a bronze in their respective categories. In addition, they won $17,500 in special awards and scholarships! See below for the details of the awards.
Kelvin Zhang, Grade 10, Gleneagle Secondary: Gold Medal (Intermediate Excellence Award in his category) - $250 -The Actuarial Foundation of Canada Award (Intermediate) - $750 -Challenge Award - Information -Western University Scholarship - $4,000
Janice Pang, Grade 12, Pinetree Secondary: Silver Medal (Senior Excellence Award in her category) -Dalhousie University Faculty of Science Entrance Scholarship - $2,000 -University of British Columbia (Vancouver) Science Entrance Award - $2,000 -University of Ottawa Entrance Scholarship - $2,000 -Western University Scholarship - $2,000 -University of New Brunswick Entrance Scholarship - $2,500
Vladislav Pomogaev, Grade 12, Riverside Secondary: Bronze Medal (Senior Excellence Award in his category) -University of Ottawa Entrance Scholarship - $1,000 -Western University Scholarship - $1,000
On their trip the students also had the opportunity to meet students from all across Canada, interact with many different leading scientists in Canada including Chris Hadfield, and learn about Montreal's culture through tours throughout the city
