Course Description:

English Language Arts 6, 7, & 8

This course will help students build students' skills in reading writing and representing, as per the English Language Arts curriculum.  See general information about Middle school courses below.* *

Beginner Band and Visual Arts 6/7/8

A $20 deposit will be charged at the time or registration. This is nonrefundable as it covers the cost of the music book.

Students in Beginner Band should be essentially brand new to their instrument. Students who register for this course will benefit from instruction in a band class for half the morning AND a Visual Arts class for the other half. 

1) Instrumental rentals will be available for a fee, sponsored by a local music store

2)  Instrument options:  Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone Horn, French Horn, Tuba, Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Oboe, Alto/Tenor Saxophones, Bassoon, and a limited number of percussion and bass guitars.  In Advanced Band, violin, viola, cello and string bass are additionally available for students with at least one year's experience on one of these instruments.

Students taking band in their home school during the regular school year:  Please note that your teachers make separate decisions re: instrument selection based on suitability, program needs and availablility.

Creative Writing

This course will help students currently in Grades 5 through 8 to improve their ability to write with creativity in a variety of genres.  See general information about Middle school courses below.* *

Performing Arts/Drama Improv 

This course will help students build students' skills and confidence their abilities in the performing arts.  Skits, role playing, acting and improv will be the focus, along with some script writing.  See general information about Middle school courses below.* *

Math Skill Building 6, 7, & 8

This course will help students build students' skills in numeracy and mathematics, as per the Mathematics curriculum.  See general information about Middle school courses below.* *

Science (Ecology Focus) 6/7/8

This class will give students both in-class and outdoor experiences related to science concepts covered at grade level.  Students can expect to take part in hands-on activities and experiments in addition to regular classroom activities. Science (Outdoor Focus) 6, 7 & 8

This course allows students to explore scientific pursuits both in and out of the classroom environment.  Note that students will visit environmental features within walking distance. See general information about Middle school courses below.**

Integrated Studies 6/7/8

These courses combine concepts from two or more subject areas, enabling students to make powerful connections between different curriculum areas. The newly revised BC Curriculum features more integration of subject areas, with the intention that students gain a deeper understanding of curriculum content.

Integrated Studies Media Literacy - Social Studies / Current Events 6/7

This course aims to help students to develop their critical thinking and creative thinking skills. These skills are essential for navigating our increasingly digital world. We will explore topics such as website design, media analysis, and current events.
