Dear Parents and Guardians:

We hope that you have enjoyed the summer break!

On behalf of the Scott Creek staff, we would like to welcome both our returning and new students and their families. We are looking forward to meeting you and to working with your children this year. Scott Creek is a wonderful place for your children to explore a variety of learning opportunities, discover their strengths and passions and enjoy a sense of connectedness and community. We encourage our students to get involved in a variety of school activities to enhance their middle school experience.

During the first week of school our students will be involved in Foundation Week Connecting activities. They will learn the routines of their community, attend a welcome back assembly, and gel as a group through a variety of activities such as designing their community logo, learning about their community members and a pancake breakfast on Friday for the grade 6’s.

Our office will be open Monday, August 31 to Thursday, September 3, from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm to register new students and to assist students and parents who may have questions or concerns. If your child will not be returning to Scott Creek, please call our office at (604) 945-0156 to let us know.

On Wednesday, Sept 2 at 1:00 pm, Mrs. Vanstaalduinen and I will be hosting an informal school tour for students registering this week and for any grade 6 students who would like another quick look around the school before the year starts. Tours will also be provided for students the following week and for parents at our “Meet the Teacher” night in September.

Scott Creek Middle School - September 2026

What will the First Day at Scott Creek Middle School will look like on Tuesday, September 8, 2026?

All grade 6 Students and New Students – registered before September 6 Start Time: 9:10 am End Time: 9:40 am

Grade 6 Students:

• Last name beginning with A to O will go to the gym where they will sit in rows based on last name alphabet letter.
• Last name beginning with P to Z will go to the MPR where they will sit to rows based on last name alphabet letter.

New Students Grade 7 and 8:

• Newly Registered Students (before September 4) in grades 7 and 8 will go to the library where our EAL teacher will complete attendance (did not attend Scott Creek last year).

All Unregistered New Students:

• After attendance is completed: All students in grade 6 or newly registered students will be given an information sheet with their name and community listed and information about the next week. Please make sure they bring a labeled water bottle, recess snack, lunch, backpack, and a pencil box on Wednesday. Students will also have a tour, so they know where to meet on Wednesday.
• Unregistered students will go to the office and register with their parents or guardians. On Wednesday morning at 8:38 our youth worker and counselors will run an orientation for any students that newly register on Tuesday and take them to their assigned community. Students will meet at the games room for this orientation on Wednesday. They should bring a labeled water bottle, recess snack, lunch, backpack and a pencil box on Wednesday and will be at school for the full day. (8:38 to 2:57).

All returning Grade 7 and 8 Students:

Start Time: 9:10 am End Time: 9:40 am

Goats:

Grade 8’s: all go to Ms. Renard and Mr. Saranchuk’s classroom. Grade 7’s: go back to homeroom classroom from last year.

Panthers:

Grade 8’s: all go to Ms. Galliford's classroom, Mr. Cameron 's classroom and Ms. Doyle's classroom.

Grade 7’s : go back to homeroom classroom from last year.

Foxes:

All grade 7’s and 8’s go back to fishbowl classrooms.

Penguins:

All grade 7’s and 8’s go back to homeroom classroom from last year.

Grizzlies:

All grade 7’s and 8’s go back to homeroom classroom from last year.

Wolves:

All grade 7’s and 8’s go back to homeroom classroom from last year.

On Wednesday, students will meet in the following areas based on their assigned community at 8:38. If students arrive later than 8:50 - they will check in with the youthworker by the front office.

GOATS – Downstairs in West Wing (New Building)

Panthers –Hallway B

Grizzlies – Hallway C

Wolves – Upstairs in West Wing (New Building)

Penguins - Hallway A

Foxes - Library

Grade 6 and new students will be shown where these areas are on Tuesday. Maps will be available. Staff will also be available at the front and back of the school Wednesday morning to help direct them.

Key first week information:

Classroom placements:

On Tuesday, September 8^th, grade 6’s and new students will find out which community they are in. Mandarin Bilingual students are in the Penguins community and Montessori students are in the Foxes community. Teachers, support staff and administration will have master lists in case students forget which community they are in before Wednesday morning. Returning students will be assigned to the same community as the previous year. We believe that students build stronger connections by staying in the same community for their three years at Middle School. Students will work with many different students and teachers in their exploration classes.

Students will be placed in classes within their community no later than Monday, September 14. Our goal is to develop balanced, educationally sound classes. Much time and discussion are involved in the placement of each student and several factors are considered including class size and composition, support needs, and social and emotional development. Once these factors are considered, every effort is made to ensure the best possible educational placement is made for each student. We use important information and recommendations provided by the students’ previous year teacher(s) to help us place our new grade 6 students in optimal working and learning environments. Our staff at Scott Creek are exceptional and will do their best to support your child and your family during their middle years.

Traffic, Parking and Drive Thru Information at SCMS:

We strongly encourage students to walk to school on Tuesday and every day. If you plan to come with your child on Tuesday, please park on a side street, at Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool or in the Crunch parking lot by turning left on Lansdowne first driveway past our school. Parking at our school is very limited.
