Daily Announcements - January 14, 2022

January 14, 2022

Announcements

Today is Black Excellence Friday, January 14, 2022.

Here is a happy hello to our guests today. Hello to Mr. Velasco, Ms. Trommel, and Ms. Tabangay. We are also welcoming our Artist in Residence, Lorna Moffat!

Reminders from Ms. Jung

Safety First

Wear your mask and remember to pack extras in your bag this weekend!!

Moving through the building means walking on the right side of the hall. There should be very little reason to move past the front foyer or the stairwells especially on Fridays when there is no explorations. However, if you are using the washroom at lunch, please enter from the front door through the main foyer to the washrooms that are to the left of the rainbow stairs!

R is for Respect

E is for Empathy which means we are showing compassion and understanding for how others learn and we are quiet during seat work, working independently in class as much as possible!

Birthdays

Today and last week on this day, we celebrate birthdays for Audrey, Tony, Catarina, Theo, and Ryan.

High Five Friday!

Thanks to students who dressed warmly for the rain earlier this week! Being outside is refreshing when you are prepared, dry and warm!

High Five for our student announcers this week!

Black Excellence Day

Today, we honour people of black ancestry and heritage! We learn more about black culture and history to be more empathetic towards others in society as a whole. Coming from roots of segregation, hatred, fear and racism is ugly and it is time instead, to educate ourselves to show we are one, we are united and we are kind! Dr. Martin Luther King who's birthday was on this day, is known for his singular wisdom in calling out the end of discrimination in favour of unity and peace. Research his speech from the United States' Lincoln Memorial "I have a dream" and think about the presentation from Get Real that we had in September of this school year and last spring, reminding us that we can always make the kinder more thoughtful and right choices!

From Martin Luther King's speech "I Have A Dream".

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation

where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.

From Amanda Gormans poem "The Hill We Climb"

We are striving to forge a union with purpose,

to compose a country committed to all cultures,

colors, characters and conditions of man.

And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us,

but what stands before us.

We close the divide because we know, to put our future first,

we must first put our differences aside.

We lay down our arms to one another.

We seek harm to none and harmony for all.
