Thanks for supporting our school initiatives! Ms. Kuypers will be there to oversee your pick up as well as Angus Hilderley, perhaps!

13 Days of Moody!

It's Day 4 and we feature none other than Ms. Cardinal who was destined to be a teacher! Listen here to why she became a teacher!

There's a few reasons why I became an Education Assistant. The main one was that I have a friend who has a son who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder when he was 3 years old. I kept speaking to him, even though he never spoke back, played with him in ways that he was comfortable with even though I was the only one who did this. No one really engage with him because he couldn't engage in the way they expected. My heart filled when he would give me hugs, a rare thing for him. It made me start thinking about how every child with exceptionalities deserves to be acknowledged, nurtured, valued and included. Once my daughter entered Kindergarten, I volunteered a lot in her classroom, and other teachers and EA's would ask me "why aren't you doing this as a career?", and I started to think "yeah, why aren't I doing this as a career". When the pandemic happened, I saw the impact on kids. I started doing impromptu Strong Start story times for my friend's toddlers outside, and realized that I loved it so much. I needed to be working with kids. I'm so happy to be in a job where I can connect with students, support and nurture kids with diverse needs, and be a member of a school community. Plus, I am a big fan of spirit days before I ever worked in a school - I have a headband or hat for every holiday!
