École Moody Middle School of the Arts Updates and Learning POD Assignment for Your Child

September 03, 2021

Greetings EMMSOTA Families.

I am emailing to inform you of your child's assigned Learning POD or Team for the upcoming year. We have yet to finalize classes and hope to do so by the end of the week of September 7-10th.  We will be asking students to meet every day at their designated Pod meeting location outside the school. Teachers will meet students and bring their lineup inside the building everyday for the time being.  We do try to maintain a student's POD throughout their time at EMMSOTA and occasionally there is need for a change of POD due to change in enrolment numbers. At this time our PODs are set and we will try to limit the movement of students once we gather them into groups over the first few days. While we are not mandated to stay within our classroom learning groups this year we will be going forward cautiously and limiting multiple class interactions inside the building for the time being. We will continue to manage how students are moving through the building and will be opening our Exploration spaces for students to attend in those class areas during their Exploration time. More information will come next week in regards to classes and learning spaces.

Students should report to the designated POD meeting area outside the school as outlined on the attached map. Grade 6s and new students will meet outside the Gym entrance only on the Tuesday September 7th at 9:30 AM. See schedule below.

First Week back to School at EMMSOTA

Tuesday September 7th Students will return to school for attendance and brief introductions for the first week back.

Grade 6 Students and All New Students will arrive at 9:30 AM to the Gym/Amphitheatre Area. (see attached maps)

We will have short introductions and introduce them to their POD teachers who will take then to their regular POD Meeting Place outside. This first day should last no more than 30-45 minutes.

Grade 7 and 8 Returning Students will arrive at 10:30 to their POD designated areas (see map attached), where they will take attendance and receive information about the first week back. This should last no more than 30 minutes.

On Wednesday September 8th we will welcome students back for their first full day of school. (2021-2022 Bell Schedule is attached to this message). We will have a regular start for all our students and ask that every day for the rest of the week and going forward, they meet in their designated POD spaces to mitigate some of the traffic flow when entering and exiting the building. (see attached map)

If your child comes late to their designated area, they will be directed to the front entrance and foyer where our Youth Worker, Christine will meet them and ensure they wash their hands and get to their classroom safely.

** We are asking parents and guardians to please wait for your child at a designated place off school grounds or in cars where you can along Buller or James Street. Our Parking lot has only a few drop off and pick up spots that will fill up quickly. Please maintain flow of traffic entering and exiting the parking lot. Staff parking lot is not for pick up and drop off. As we welcome back our 400 plus students, we do want to manage large clusters of people gathering.

** Please be cautious as you arrive to school. There will be plenty of excitement as students arrive back to school and we ask that all drivers show extra care and concern as we get back into our school drop off and pick up routines.

** Please have your child come to school with their mask as they are required to be always worn indoors. We ask that you follow all of our drop off and pick up regulations and please plan to pick your child up off site as much as possible to reduce the traffic flow and numbers coming and going.

** On Wednesday September 8th, students will be required to bring only very basic supplies, lunch, snack and water. Microwaves for heating food and hot water for noodles, will not be available for students use at this point and we will continue to ask families to pack litter less lunches to manage our waste.

** We are not assigning lockers at this time so please keep personal belongings to a minimum and backpacks should only be filled with the basic required materials. We will be looking to roll lockers out slowly later in September. Once settled into our regular classes on Monday September 13th, classroom teachers will go over what supplies are required for our first few days back. Every child will be receiving a small art kit that will be used in class for “Daily Art Activities". Families who have ordered supplies through Creative Children will be able to take these kits home in our first few days. They will be delivered to classrooms on Wednesday and Thursday.

** Some of our key health and safety guidelines for students and families have been sent out to you previously and posted on our website. Please pay particular attention to the requirement that parents and guardians do a daily health check before sending their child to school. This is very important as we do not want students coming to school with any signs or symptoms of illness. See the attached form for your reference

** Online e-Forms will be delivered to you through your SchoolCashOnline (SCO) account. Please access your SCO account to complete all e-Forms and any future payments. If you have not registered for SCO, please access it through the following link and click on 'get started today' (please register using the student's LEGAL name):

** Please remind your children that while we are not expecting 2 meters physical distancing, we do want students to be aware of personal space and always keep space between them and others.  We understand students are excited to see their friends and we will have more opportunities to mingle across classes and teams this year as we open up some extra curricular activities, clubs and events around the school. The key to our success and the health and safety of all, is that we stay on the same page and enforce the same messaging right from the beginning.

Thank you as always for your support. I will continue to send updates as part of my “Principal's Updates" via email and we will also begin sending out our bi-weekly “Moody Matters" e-news updates that will focus on what's happening around the school. These items are all posted on our website at http://www.sd43.bc.ca/School/moody/Pages/default.aspx#/=  I look forward to seeing you all at our EMMSOTA PAC meeting on Monday September 20st at 6:30 PM on ZOOM. Meeting invite will come to you from our EMMSOTA PAC Executives. We look forward to holding in person PAC meetings soon.

** Please find attached the map of our our regular Bell Schedule and the Daily Health Check for Students.

We are looking forward to our first full days with students, getting to know our classes and beginning the return to our busy and always exciting, middle school ways. We know we are still living in uncertain times and are looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish this year going forward cautiously with good healthy practices and more people vaccinated. As always, we will do everything we can to help your children thrive in a safe and fun learning community.

We are very excited to get this year started with some great opportunities ahead of us. Thank you for sharing your children with us again this year. We will look forward to seeing you all soon.

Kindest Regards.
