2020-04-26 ÉMMSOTA Principal Updates - Student Locker and Supply Pick Up Instructions and Schedule

April 29, 2020

Greetings ÉMMSOTA Families.

We have completed our third week in our new online learning world as we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times. I hope you were all able to find some joy in our Staff Greeting sent out earlier. For those who have not had a chance to see it yet, here is the YouTube link again: https://youtu.be/cz0eWuyTWHU
We hope the message finds you all well and doing your best to thrive at home.

This update brings to you some important information for your immediate consideration. I understand there is a good deal of information coming to you and your children on-line and through email, so I will try and capture the essence of my update in 6 key areas (over two emails).  Please take to time to read the information carefully. This email will focus primarily on the locker and supply pick-up procedures for the week ahead.

  1. Locker and Supply Pick Up This Week. As it appears that in-class, in-person instruction continues to be suspended for the foreseeable future, we decided to clean out lockers and gather what student supplies we could in classrooms and assemble it for safe and efficient pick up this week. Thanks to many of our support staff for being in the building last week, cleaning out lockers and getting everything ready for pick up. We have organized pick up according to classroom division and in one hour cycles from Wednesday April 29th to Friday May 1st.  It will be important that students and parents understand this is the designated time to come and pick up their items. We cannot have students arriving at all times of the week. We continue to focus on student and staff safety as our number one priority. Please see schedule below and some very important instructions for pick up.

Instructions for when students arrive for pick up:

  1. Pick up of locker contents and supplies will be from the outside Gym doors in the amphitheatre area. We will have one entrance door and one exit door. Staff will be providing guidance to students upon arrival.
  2. Students arriving should be lining up outside Gym and front of the school alongside the Strong Start classroom near the main front entrance. Cones and markings will be out to establish a minimum of 2 meters separation between students lining up. We ask that parents stay in their cars while waiting, or off site if walking with student, to minimize numbers immediately outside of the school.
  3. Siblings may come together and line up together to get their items. This is the only exception.
  4. Students will enter the gym one at a time, pick up their report card envelope from their core teacher then move to locker station where they will be given their bag of locker contents and supplies.
  5. Once students have been given their bag they will be asked to leave the school and grounds as quickly as possible. We appreciate that it will be nice to see classmates, but we cannot have students hanging around socializing.
  6. Students will be asked to leave the amphitheatre area and carry on out the North side of the staff parking area. We will be reminding students to maintain appropriate physical distancing at all times.
  7. Some students have larger garbage bags with umbrellas and other larger items, so we ask that you prepare for this by bringing an extra backpack or bag to carry the items home.
  8. The times noted above are designated to minimize the number of students at the school at any one time. Please pay attention to the times provided for your child's division. This is very important.
  9. Any library books found in lockers have been returned to the Library Learning Commons. Any textbooks found in lockers were returned to classroom teachers. All other items were placed in a bag labeled with student name and division.
  10. There may still be some student supplies, assignments, projects left in classrooms and exploration spaces. We will arrange another time later in May/June if necessary to consider what is left over.
  11. We will be making follow up calls to students not picking up their locker items during their designated times

Thank you all for your patience waiting on supply and locker content pick up. We hope this will be a very smooth process with your support.

I will send another email out shortly with some other important information for families.

Cheers to all. We miss you and your children!
