2020-04-06 ÉMMSOTA Student Retrieval of Essential Supplies at the School. Please read carefully

April 29, 2020

Good Morning ÉMMSOTA Parents and Guardians.

If you are receiving this email you have indicated through our survey process and conversations with your child's teacher that your child has essential supplies that they need to pick up at the school. These items include things like a computer, medication, musical instrument and the occasional essential clothing item like shoes left in a locker.

We are doing everything we can to focus on student and staff safety and have only asked students to come in if they absolutely need something from their locker, their classroom or the music room. We will be limiting access to those places in the building and ushering students to those places quickly and efficiently. We have put together a schedule by Pod and Alpha last name to ensure we have decent spacing of students coming in to the get their items.

This is NOT a time to be socializing. It is a time to quickly pick up your item(s) and make your way back home. We will ask any parents bringing their students to remain in your vehicles or to remain outside of the building, keeping at least 2 meters (6.5 feet)  between yourself and any other people. Being mindful of social distancing is a very important part of this procedure and we will have a few staff on hand to remind students of this. Please be respectful of all cones and signage that helps us keep our physical distance. We are trying to limit the number of students in the building at any one time to 4 or 5. Students may have to wait outside for a few minutes as we stagger how many come in and out of the school.

The Schedule is as follows: Please closely follow the times allotted for your POD and according to your last name. Thank you!

A-E          9 – 9:20 AM

** Procedures for entering and exiting the building:

  1. Enter using the MAIN entrance only. Please line up outside according to the cones that will be in place to help manage our social distancing.
  2. Students will be ushered into the building where they will check in and be reminded not to touch surfaces and areas where they do not need to go.
  3. Students will be escorted to their locker, classroom or music room to pick up item(s).
  4. Once students have finished picking items up, students will be ushered out of the  building using the West exit stairwell leading out to Buller Street.
  5. This process should take no more than 5-10 minutes. Staff acting as ushers will identify touch points with sticky notes so caretakers are able to get around to clean immediately after students come into the building.
  6. Parents are asked to wait outside or in cars. Students are asked not to hang around the building or school site at all after picking items up.
  7. At all times follow the safety rules outlined for us all over the past few weeks.
  1. Wash hands often
  2. Sneeze or cough into sleeve
  3. Do not touch your face with hands
  4. Maintain social distancing of at least 2 meters (6.5 feet) at all times.

I recognize this is all very difficult for many and we are all just doing what we can to stay safe and support each other. I wish we were able to welcome students back in the way we know. These are exceptional times and we appreciate your patience and support to stay healthy and well.

We will consider some follow up times later in April if we determine the need to clean out lockers and other spaces in the school. These pick ups are really designed for emergency supplies ONLY. If for some reason you are unable to make the times allocated for your child please let Mr. Clay know by email mclay@sd43.bc.ca or call the school directly between the hours of 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Again thank you for reminding your children about our safety precautions and to get in and out of the school quickly and efficiently.

Cheers for now.
