Greetings ÉMMSOTA Community.
The sun is still shining and the air is fresh. Hoping you are getting outdoors in some capacity while consciously practicing “social distancing" at all times. The uncertainty of our current state of affairs is always best supported staying in touch with others, even if it is on the phone, facetime and other means of social media. Take your walks with family out in nature and stay away from any public social gatherings. We all need to work together to stay safe and healthy.
Attached is a letter from our Superintendent, Patricia Gartland. The message below sent to us earlier today from our district communications team.
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Please see the attached letter from SD43 Superintendent Patricia Gartland. The letter provides more local information about the Minister of Education's announcement on March 17th that all K-12 schools in BC will be suspending in-class instruction indefinitely.
An FAQ page for parents/guardians has been set up here. This page will be updated to answer questions from parents/guardians as they arrive. Please continue to heed the advice of provincial health authorities around social distancing and monitor the health of family members.
As stated in the letter we are in uncharted waters and there are more questions than answers at this point. It is important that we do not speculate on how we may operationalize the new normal in education, once we return from March break. It is important at this time that you all focus on your families and your health and allow teachers and support staff to do the same, while on their March Break. Please do not contact teachers directly at this time with questions regarding continuity of service, online opportunities, access to school supplies in lockers, etc., as they will not have any answers further to the communications coming from our district. The schools are currently closed to anyone outside of our caretaking staff and administration. Teachers and support staff are all technically on holidays.
I recognize the uncertainty of the days ahead and so once again I encourage you to focus on family and health and be creative in how you stay busy and active; hopefully focusing on as much fun as you can. I do not assume to have any more answers than you, and I will do my best to reassure you with the information I have currently.
