Good morning EMM families,

Jen Penk and I are really excited to welcome your children back to school next week. There sure was a buzz in the air yesterday during Camp Thunderbird, which reminded me instantly why we love middle school kids with their energy, humour and honesty!

 Some notes for next week's return to school:

 Tuesday Sept 2^nd (all students only in attendance for around 20 minutes)

Grade 7/8

 10:00 -10:20 returning students in grade 7 and 8 – go to last year's classroom. Teachers will give more info to the kids for meeting locations on Wednesday.

  Grade 7 and 8's new to the school – go to the library learning commons (beside main office).

Grade 6

10:30-10:50  grade 6's go to the gym. Families will get an email tomorrow (Fri) which identifies grade 6 kids into a COLOUR group. (This is not necessarily the same colour they were assigned with a bingo dot today!)

Attendance will be taken in their colour groups on Tues and teachers will show colour groups where to meet on Wednesday.

​Wednesday Sept 3^rd – This is our first full day of classes (8:40-2:47) Students need to bring a snack, lunch, water bottle, backpack with minimal school supplies (lockers aren't distributed until the following week to secure laptops or valuables)

​Students will be in pods this week, but not necessarily homeroom classes. Teams (pods) always mix up students for a few days to create connections until we get the district go-ahead to assign into set divisions (this happens each year – we need to submit enrollment numbers and wait to see if we increase/decrease a division and staffing).

Parents will receive an email next week welcoming the students to one of our five amazing teams/pods (Orca, Raven, Wolf, Bear, Eagle). Students typically stay in this pod for three years, moving between teachers.

 Just a quick note about our student cell phone policy (kids know these rules now, but parents may not!). If you decide to let your child bring a mobile phone to school, please be aware that they will be put in a 'cell phone hotel' in the classroom for the entire day until dismissal. This is not a new district policy, but I am aware that some of you are new to our province!
