Notices Regarding E-Bikes/Scooters, Fraser Health Information, and Coquitlam Grade 6 Stay Active! Program
September 4, 2026
Dear Como Lake Families,
We look forward to seeing all students at 10:00 am at Como Lake Middle on Tuesday morning.
We have some additional notices and messages that the district has provided that we are sharing with you below and attached.
- Micromobility Devices Such as E-Bikes and E-Scooters
Safety is our top priority and as such, we wanted to reach out to you regarding micromobility devices such as e-bikes and e-scooters. E-bikes and e-scooters are not allowed on Como Lake Middle property. The following background information and attached infographic has been provided by the Coquitlam RCMP.
As part of the RCMP’s ongoing strategy around providing information to parents, students and the community regarding the safe and lawful use of e-scooters/e-bikes, they have created the attached infographic that clarifies the rules and restriction around the use of e bikes and e-scooters and how that impacts school aged riders.
We understand that many families may have made the decision to purchase these devices to support their child’s commute to school. Unfortunately, the minimum age requirement of 16 years old means that students should not be using these e-scooters at elementary or middle school. Furthermore, the e-scooters should not be ridden on sidewalks, park trails, or pathways unless permitted by signs or pavement markings. As a result, e-scooters will not be allowed on school property at all elementary and middle schools. It is expected that families will make alternate arrangements for their students’ commute to school.
In addition to the messaging to families in our communities, the Coquitlam RCMP are also planning an education campaign at Middle schools in September. They will be on site throughout the month educating parents and students around the use of these devices.
