Welcome to Canada and to School District No. 43 (Coquitlam).

SD43 is pleased to welcome all new families to our communities and schools including Syrian refugees.
We have a long and successful history of serving refugees. We are well practiced and have expertise and services in place.

For Syrian refugees, the important first steps to integrate into our schools will be:

  1. Contact our Arabic speaking SWIS worker (Settlement Workers in Schools) by calling Hadil Fonouni – 604-349-7706 or email
  2. An initial assessment will be done by our SWIS workers.
  3. A more detailed assessment will then take place to help students integrate into their neighbourhood schools as soon as possible.
