Fast ForWord and Reading Assistant is a computer-based intervention strategy to improve students’ phonemic awareness and reading skills. Fast ForWord sharpens phonological representations through repetitive practice that may corrects years of repeatedly incorrectly processing sounds and phonemes.
The program is administered at individual schools and is suggested to run for an 8 to 10 week period.
Fast ForWord is intended for students with significant, diagnosed reading difficulties or disabilities caused by deficits with phonological awareness. An additional requirement is being able to work at a sustained pace at a computer for an entire 50 minutes. Students must have hearing in a normal range, be able to wear headphones, and be able to use a mouse.
