SAFE SCHOOLS INITIATIVE:
The school district is encouraging schools to look at the benefits of EBS (Effective Behaviour Support). Several of our middle schools and a few elementary and secondary schools are in various stages of implementation.
Effective Behaviour Support (EBS) is a systems approach to proactive school-wide discipline that is designed to increase the capacity. It is a team-based problem solving process that considers (a) systems, (b) data, and (c) practices. Systems include the policies, procedures, and decision-making processes that consider school-wide, non-classroom, classroom, and individual student systems. Data are used to guide decision-making processes and outcomes. Practices include the strategies that are used directly to enhance student learning outcomes and teacher instructional activities.
Schools must organize their efforts in ways that respond to our new challenges:
Although much of what makes up EBS is not new, the system provides a clear format for effective behavioural practice.
