Suwa'lkh School
Suwa'lkh is an alternative educational program. It is open to students in grades eight to ten. Suwa'lkh means 'New Beginnings' in the Hul'qumi'num language. Students follow the BC Curriculum and staff use collaboration and a trauma informed lens to work with families and students. First Peoples Principals of learning are imbedded in practice. We provide academic programming, outdoor education opportunities, and a self-paced learning environment. We have a partnerships with Outward Bound, The Tzu Chi foundation andFresh Roots Urban Farm Society. Breakfast and lunch is provided for all students.
Outdoor Education:
A partnership with Outward Bound Canada allows Suwa'lkh to provide an extensive outdoor program, including day and overnight hikes, canoeing excursions, and survival skill classes throughout our province. These adventures encourage our youth to build capacity, resilience, and leadership, all while rebuilding and strengthening their connection to the place in which they live.
