Elementary:   Classes are designed to give students more time in a subject area or to provide a chance to preview a subject area.  For example, a Reading & Writing Grade 1 class might include students who have completed Grade 1 and would benefit from extra time.  The class might also include students who have completed Kindergarten and would like to get ready for Grade 1.  These courses are available to all elementary students in grades 1 through 5, including ELL(ESL) students. 

Note:  Classes do NOT replace an entire grade.

 

Middle Classes are designed to give students more time in a subject area or to provide a chance to preview a subject area.  For example, a Math Grade 6 class might include students who have completed Grade 6 and would benefit from extra time.  The class might also include students who have completed Grade 5 and would like to get ready for Grade 6.  These courses are available to all middle school students, including ELL(ESL) students. 

Note:  Classes do NOT replace an entire grade.

 

Remedial Classes provide a path for students who achieved 40-49% in a course to attain a passing grade.  For Grade 9 courses, students will be able to upgrade their mark to 50% (C-).  For Grade 10 courses, students will be able to upgrade their mark to a maximum of 62% (C).

 

Secondary Skill BuildingThese are non-credit courses designed to improve a student's level of success in required core courses leading to graduation.  These classes are generally used as a preview to a course.

High School Credit / Advanced CreditComplete for-credit courses at the grade 10, 11 and 12 level.  These are full courses offered in a compressed timeline to allow students to complete the course in a shorter period of time.  Courses are offered in a face-to-face format in the Summer Learning program.  Some courses are offered in an online-blended format as part of Coquitlam Open Learning's 'Fast Track'.

 

ESL (EAL):  Courses designed to support English Language Learners.
