By introducing grammatical analysis, this course aims at sensitizing students to the intricacies of the French language. Grammar is explored so students can acquire the knowledge that is necessary to improve the different oral and written aspects of the language. Two novels will be read in this course.
This course will provide a continuation of grammatical analysis and a further study of grammatical concepts such as agreement of tenses and position of pronouns.
Idiomatic expressions will be introduced as well. Generally, this course aims at improving students' oral and written skills. Two novels will be studied in this course.
FRANCAIS 11
Students will further develop the four language skills. Students will learn more about the French culture (Quebec and France) and develop an appreciation for la difference. The play Zone will be studied in this course.
FRANCAIS LANGUE 12
This course further develops the objectives of Franais through a more advanced and detailed study of the communication principles of the French language. Students must, for example, complete an in-depth analysis of a literary work. Two novels will be studied in this course.
MATHMATIQUES 9
This program reviews and extends concepts in integers,
rationals, algebra, geometry and measurement. Major new topics include polynomial operations, equations, factoring, analytical and deductive geometry and data analysis. The emphasis in geometry will be on the development of logical reasoning. The main focus in data analysis will be on probability and simulations. Students will be given the opportunity to solve both routine and non-routine problems in all content strands.
PRINCIPLES DE MATHMATIQUES 10
This is an optional French Immersion course. Students must choose one Math 10 course, in either French or English.
This course quickly reviews basic concepts in number operations, algebra, geometry, and introduces students to a variety of new topics. These include irrational numbers, operations with radicals, factoring, rational expressions, inequalities, formula manipulations, quadratic equations, trigonometry, and analyzing two variable data. The main focus in geometry will be to develop logical reasoning by doing guided proofs. Again, a primary objective will be to improve students problem solving skills by exposing them to a wide variety of strategies and problems. Students should have access to a scientific calculator.

SCIENCES HUMAINES 9
The primary focus in Sciences Humaines 9 is on the growth of nations. It is accomplished by a study of geography, North America, nation building and social order, industrialization, current events and developments, and relevant field studies.
SCIENCES HUMAINES 10
The primary focus of this course is nationhood and economic relationships. This is accomplished through studying confederation; development of the West to 1914; Canadas economic activities; Canada and the Pacific region and the Indian sub-continent; current events and developments; and relevant field studies.
SCIENCES HUMAINES 11
The primary focus in Sciences Humaines 11 is contemporary Canada and world affairs. This is accomplished by a study of government, law, politics, and social issues; contemporary Canada; the global environment; current events and developments; and relevant field studies.
COMMUNICATIONS 10
This course is designed for those who would like to practice their French and who have the motivation to do so. The course includes discussions, philosophy, improvisation, script writing of a French play, etc.
N.B. The trip to Quebec and/or France is not mandatory.
CONVERSATION 10
This course is required for grade 9 Immersion students. Students will have the opportunity to practice their oral skills in a variety of creative ways in order to feel more comfortable with the language. This first semester course will be followed with Franais 9 in semester two.
ETUDES DES ALIMENTS 11
This course is taught in French. With a quick review of the basics, its time for some real taste treats. Sticky cinnamon buns and fresh pies and pastry will test your will power. Try your hand at cake decorating; youll be surprised by the results! Meal planning and nutrition will provide the background to creating full course meals to tempt your palate. Bon apptit! Only one of Foods Studies 11 or Etude des Aliments 11 may be taken for credit.
CONVERSATION 12
Writing and presentation of skits, theatre sports, discussions, debates and research form integral parts of this course. Emphasis is on oral work (conversations, interviews, debates, songs, etc) to help students keep the French they have learned before and/or to make them more fluent in French. Writing and presentation of a 30-minute opera will be included.
