Rick and Amanda Hansen believe that people of all abilities should have the right to a barrier-free education. The Rick & Amanda Hansen Scholarship for Youth with Disabilities provides financial support to Canadian youth with disabilities to pursue post-secondary education.

 

Funding of up to $10,000 per year (up to a maximum of $40,000) is available for youth with disabilities looking to complete a 1 to 4 year post-secondary program at a publicly funded institution in Canada.

 

Eligibility Criteria  

·       Person with a disability, defined as functional limitation – whether permanent or episodic – which affects the student's ability to participate in post-secondary education; 

·       Under the age of 30 years as of the application deadline (May 31, 2024); 

·       Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada; 

·       Eligible for domestic tuition at a publicly funded post-secondary institution or training program at a public university, college or institute in Canada; 

·       Enrolling full-time in the 2024/25 academic year for a 1 to 4 year post-secondary program at a publicly funded post-secondary institution in Canada; and 

·       Not receiving other financial awards that total more than $2,500 per year (excluding student loans).  

·       Applicants are responsible for ensuring that any funding received from the Rick & Amanda Hansen Scholarship will not negatively affect the status of any benefits and subsidies that they are eligible for.

The Dr. Hal Weinberg Scholarship will be open to all Anmore students graduating from high school in 2024.

The Hal Weinberg Scholarship is awarded annually each spring to Grade 12 Anmore resident(s) graduating from high school and continuing on to post secondary education.

The recipient(s) of the scholarship will have one (1) year to enroll into the post-secondary institution of their choice. Proof of enrollment must be provided prior to disbursing the scholarship.

The successful recipient will be based on a variety of factors including community volunteering, academic achievements, extra-curricular activities and future plans

There are four different awards available:

  • Merit Awards ($750) – for students completing Grades 10 – 12
  • Bursaries ($1200) – for students enrolled in trade/community technical college diploma or certificate program
  • Scholarships ($1800) – for students enrolled in degree or graduate programs
  • Bridging Awards ($1000) – for students registered in an upgrading program (Adult Basic Education) or University Preparation program

There is a maximum of one award per applicant per student year. Students may re-apply each year if they wish to be considered for another award.​

Applicants must be under 25 and accepted (or conditionally accepted) for admission as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program or trade, technical or vocational training.

The program must be at a designated public or private post-secondary institution in the Province of British Columbia.

Qualified students with a parent who has been an employee of the BC Public Service for the last three years may apply.

In honour of Luke’s many accomplishments and contributions, the award is presented annually to a Canadian student who demonstrates Luke’s many qualities — academic performance, interest in science, extracurricular activities, and volunteering — and is graduating high school to begin post-secondary education in physical sciences at a Canadian university.

This bursary is intended for a youth who has lost a parent or guardian. One bursary will be awarded yearly in June in the amount of $500 or more.

In order to be considered for the Rose Family Bursary you must be a British Columbia Grade 12 student or be currently studying at an accredited post-secondary institution, up to the age of 21.

Applicants must provide evidence of registration with an accredited post secondary institution for 2024.

Identification of financial need will be considered.​

In order to be eligible for the Federation Youth Education Bursary, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. You are currently in care or you are a former youth in care in the province of BC. This includes being under a continuing custody order (CCO), temporary custody order (TCO, Voluntary Agreement or Special Needs Agreement), or a Youth Agreement under British Columbia’s Child, Family and Community Services Act. 
  2. You are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident. 
  3. You are 30 years old or younger in the year of your application. 
  4. You are currently attending or plan on enrolling in a post-secondary academic program provided by an institution, organization, or company in Canada.   
  5. Your education plans relate to a career in the field of Human and Social Services. Examples include Social Work, Counselling, Child & Youth Care, Psychology, Community, Family & Child Studies, Gerontology & Social Work, Health Care, Mental Health & Addictions, Law, and Sociology. ​

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants must meet all the following conditions:

  1. Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Be enrolled in an accredited college or university in British Columbia.
  3. Be a person with significant physical disabilities or ongoing health challenges, such as someone who:
    • requires a personal attendant
    • is dependent on a mechanical device for mobility or maintenance of body functions
    • requires major continuing therapies OR
    • have other significant special needs.

Applicants with mental health challenges are invited to apply only if they also have a significant physical disability.​

  • You are registered with one of Ringette Canada’s provincial/territorial member associations and are actively playing ringette at the AA level (or at the highest level offered in the applicant’s community) during the current playing season.
  • You are entering a Canadian university on a full-time basis for the first time in the next academic year.

The Jim Hebden Chemistry Bursary will be awarded to a student who has performed service for their school and/or community while maintaining the grades in science that are necessary for success in post-secondary education. This year, the bursary will remain $1000. ​The Roy Krutow Scholarship is awarded to the son or daughter of a teacher employed by School District No. 43 or to the son or daughter of a deceased or retired teacher employed in School District No. 43 at the time of death or retirement.

​Trades & Arts Scholarship (2 x $1500) – these scholarships will be awarded to students in SD43 pursuing a career in Trades or a career in Visual Arts or Fine & Performing Arts.

Equity Scholarship (4 x $1500) – these scholarships will be awarded to students who identify as Indigenous, Black, a person of colour, LGBTQ2S+, or a person with a disability. 

Criteria: one page paper outlining what their chosen field is and why the applicant has chosen to pursue a career in that field. Applicants are encouraged to include any information demonstrating financial need.

One to four awards will be granted annually to any grade 12 student in Port Coquitlam who meets the following criteria:

  • In their grade 11 & 12 years is enrolled in Terry Fox Secondary or Riverside Secondary.
  • Is in good academic standing with a minimum overall grade of 75%
  • Has competed in at least one sport, or has been a team manager for at least one sport, at their high school in their grade 11 and 12 years

Grace Family Network Foundation has established a scholarship fund to award to deserving high school graduates in financial need. The awards are intended to encourage students who are pursuing a post-secondary education and who have demonstrated not only academic achievement but also interest in their communities.

Scholarships will be awarded to three students in the amount of $1000. As well, the winning essays submitted by the scholarship recipients will be featured on gfnf's website. Application criteria include:

  • A resident of Metro Vancouver (applicable municipalites)
  • Currently registered in Grade 12
  • Criteria: students with outstanding academic and leadership achievements demonstrating financial need
  • Evidence of enrolment or application to a post-secondary school in the 2024-2025 academic year

The Education Awards Program helps residents in a household directly receiving subsidy from BC Housing, or receiving rental assistance through the Rental Assistance Program (RAP) at the start of courses pursue their educational goals as a way to achieve success and personal growth. The Capilano Community Leadership Entrance Award recognizes BC high school students with documented leadership and volunteerism in the community and demonstrated strong academic standing. Valued at up to $2,500 towards tuition and tuition surcharges, twenty of these awards are offered each year to BC high school students with a maximum of one student per school, per year. ​

1.​. All Capilano Community Leadership Entrance Award applications require a completed nomination statement from a BC High School Representative.
2. Representatives may complete as many nominations as desired; however, only one student per high school may receive an award.
 3. Students must also submit a completed online application and a Leadership Skills and Community and Campus Engagement Worksheet.
