Award: $3,000 (various number of awards)

Description

Each of the refugee awards is awarded to a refugee who has shown courage and determination while adapting to a new language and new culture in Canada. Each refugee award is valued at $3,000.

Each of the TCF refugee awards is awarded to an applicant who meets the following criteria.

  1. Entered Canada as a refugee
  2. Completed Grade 12 at a secondary school in British Columbia OR has completed high school equivalency, for example the GED.
  3. Studied English language [EL] in British Columbia or elsewhere in Canada. A transcript is required documenting successful completion of a minimum of one English language course.
    • Applicants who are secondary [high school] students are required to submit a mark transcript documenting completion of a minimum of one English language course in British Columbia or Canada.
    • Applicants who are not secondary students are required to submit documentation showing successful completion of a minimum of one English language course completed in British Columbia or Canada.
    • Please note that preference will be given to applicants who studied the English language [EL] in British Columbia.
  4. Wishes to study in a vocational or academic program at a post-secondary institution in British Columbia
  5. Has documented school and/or community volunteer service.

The application deadline for the refugee awards is January 31st of each year. Successful applicants will be notified within six weeks of the application deadline

Several $1,000 scholarships available

One scholarship is available to this year’s graduating secondary school students planning to enroll in a post-secondary educational institution for the first time in 2024.  To be eligible for this scholarship candidates must 

1) be of Italian origin i.e. as having at least one parent or grandparent of direct Italian descent, 

2) be living in a city or municipality within the 21-member Greater Vancouver Regional District, 

3) have an academic standing sufficient to qualify for entry into the post-secondary institution of their choice, and 

4) submit a completed application form with supporting documentation post-marked or delivered no later than June 15, 2024.

BC School Sports is pleased to provide over $20,000 in scholarships available to student-athletes this year.


BC School Sports Scholarships reward excellence in both scholastic and athletic pursuits.  The successful applicants will be student-athletes who have balanced their high academic achievements with significant success as school athletes and contributions to their community.

Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled in member schools who apply, and who meet all of the criteria.

Various bursaries and awards for post-secondary education and training programs.

The Education Awards Program helps residents in a household directly receiving subsidy from BC Housing, or receiving rental assistance through the Rental Assistance Program (RAP) at the start of courses pursue their educational goals as a way to achieve success and personal growth. The bursaries and awards are for post-secondary education and training programs.

We offer seven education awards and bursaries. We encourage you to apply for as many awards as you’re eligible for. We grant one award a year to each successful applicant based on academic achievement and financial need.

An education bursary for students who grew up in care

The Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT) Educational Assistance Fund was established through a trust created in June 1989 by combining three private donations. The purpose of the fund is to help those who were in provincial care reach their educational goals.​

Who can apply for an education bursary?

The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes, a program of the nonprofit organization Young Heroes Project, celebrates inspiring, public-spirited young people from diverse backgrounds all across North America. Established in 2001 by author T. A. Barron, the Barron Prize annually honors 25 outstanding young leaders ages 8 to 18 who have made a significant positive impact on people, their communities, and the environment.

ELIGIBILITY

The Barron Prize welcomes applications from public-spirited young people who are, on our April 15 deadline:

  • between the ages of 8 and 18 (not yet age 19)
  • permanent residents of and currently residing in the U.S.A. or Canada
  • currently working on an inspiring service project or have done so within the past 12 months
  • working as an individual to lead their service work. The Barron Prize does not accept applications from large groups of young people.

The Charlene Reaveley Children's Charity recognizes graduating students who harbor the hope and potential for a brighter tomorrow in the face of adversity through the loss of a parent and/or sibling.

To Qualify
  • Grade 12 graduating student
  • Loss of a parent and/or a sibling
  • Enrolled in a certified post secondary program within the same year of graduating
  • Involved in the community/volunteer work
  • A BC Resident

Applicant Requirements:
  • A minimum 500 word essay on how you fit the criteria and how you have been impacted by your loss (PDF, Google Doc or MS Word format)

The Society offers Indigenous Award programs for students pursuing post-secondary education in BC. They are available to students who identify as Indigenous – First Nations (Status or Non-Status), Métis or Inuit. All are renewable in order to provide sustained funding over multiple years.

Indigenous Student Awards: $1000-$5000 (renewable annually) for students pursuing trades training, apprenticeship, diploma, certificates, degree or post-degree programs.

At our tenth annual Magical Evening fundraiser in 2018, we were pleased to announce the beginning of the Jonah Christensen Memorial Scholarship, an annual scholarship of $1000 to be given to one student each year to help fund their post-secondary studies. This scholarship was created by the Christensen family in memory and in celebration of Jonah’s kindness, curiosity, mischievousness, and energetic drive to live life to the fullest. We hope this annual award will encourage youth to reflect on these qualities as they look toward their future endeavours.

The BC Hydro Power Pioneers annual Community Service Award recognizes students who dedicate a significant amount of their time and energy to volunteering in their local communities.

The BC Hydro Power Pioneers are recognizing youth who have excelled in community service. There are up to twenty $500 awards available throughout British Columbia.

We’re looking for students who have made outstanding contributions in their local community for a considerable amount of time or have initiated, organized or contributed significantly to a one-time project.

Priority will be given to students who volunteer in their local communities.

We’re looking for students who are:

  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents of BC
  • Graduating from high school in June of each year

The following information must be included with your application to be considered for this award:

  1. Completed application form (link below),
  2. 500 word essay of voluntary contributions you have made to your community,
  3. Reference letter(s) from the community organization(s) you have worked with,
  4. Reference letter from a teacher, counsellor or principal at your school,
