PARTICI-PAINTS SOUGHT FOR PORT COQUITLAM MURAL PROJECT SEPT. 22

Volunteers are invited to help transform a Port Coquitlam soccer portable into public art on

Saturday, Sept. 22 as part of a community mural project.

People of all ages and abilities can drop by the Minnekhada Middle School field, 1390 LaurierAve. (across from Hyde Creek Recreation Centre), from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to take part in Partici-Paint, a new mural project that is a spin-off of the City of Port Coquitlam’s Teens Against Graffiti (TAG) program.

The project is a partnership of City of Port Coquitlam Youth Services, Coquitlam RCMP, Port

Coquitlam Community Police Office, Port Coquitlam Euro-Rite FC soccer association, Benjamin Moore Paints and School District 43.

The mural will be painted on the south-facing wall of the soccer association’s portable, which has often been targeted by vandals. The building has a ramp so is accessible for people with disabilities.

Mural and graffiti artist Kris Kupskay, a former Port Coquitlam resident who has been involved in a variety of youth art projects, designed the soccer-themed mural concept and will lead the painting on Saturday.

Partici-Paint is an opportunity for local residents to take ownership of their park facilities, give

back to the community, gain volunteer hours and be guided by a professional artist.

Volunteers are asked to dress for the weather and wear clothing they don’t mind getting splattered by paint.
