Upcoming Events and Information

Back to School Update

After a summer of planning, it has been so incredibly amazing to welcome our students back to school. It's been a good week of establishing routines and learning all the new protocols to keep students and staff happy, healthy and safe.

Thank you to all the families who perform the required Health Check every morning. I've attached a copy of the Health Check to this message as well as the link to the absence report if you do need to keep your child home for the day – PARKLAND ABSENCE REPORT

Our staggered recess and lunch routines are being followed well with our new Play Zones being introduced and Learning Groups needing to remain within their Play Zone. I've attached a map for families to familiarize themselves with the structure of our school grounds during break times. Learning Groups are rotating throughout the weeks and have opportunities to play in different zones during their break times.

Before School/

After School

A few reminders to families:

  • During pick up and drop off, please be mindful to stay physically distant from other families. It's natural we want to gravitate to familiar faces and befriend new families, but please do it from six feet away and consider wearing a mask.
  • Students should go to their Meeting Areas when they arrive to school and not mix with students from other Learning Groups.
  • Once students are dismissed from their meeting areas for the day, please leave the school grounds as quickly as possible. There's activity on the playground after school with students from different learning groups and it's not the time to let the kids play together after school on school grounds.

Terry Fox Run – Virtual Run this weekend

The Terry Fox Run is celebrating 40 years this year and is encouraging families to participate in a virtual run. The Terry Fox Foundation is encouraging families to “Participate wherever you are! Around your neighbourhood, backyard, down the street, or around the block. We will unite in spirit, not in person."

Please consider keeping Terry's dream alive by registering your family for the Terry Fox Run on the site by clicking here: TERRY FOX FOUNDATION and taking some time this Sunday to run, walk or cycle as a family

We will be recognizing and celebrating our school Terry Fox Run on Friday, October 9th with more details to follow in the coming weeks. Please condiser donating to our Parkland Terry Fox Fundraising Page by following this link: PARKLAND TERRY FOX FUNDRAISING PAGE

School Calendar

As everyone is well aware, there have been many changes and adjustments to our school routines and dates for the year. Some of the traditional events have either had to be cancelled, adjusted or put on hold until the New Year. I'll update the school calendar as events and dates are firmed up and communicate changes as they are made.

September PAC Meeting – Thursday, September 24th @

7:00 PM

Our first PAC Meeting of the school year will take place on Thursday, September 24th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM in the front parkland lot of the school.

The meeting will be physically distant and people are encouraged to bring their own chair.

The September agenda is attached and to view the Welcome Back message from the PAC, please visit the Parkland PAC Facebook Page by following this link: PARKLAND PAC FACEBOOK PAGE

Orange Shirt Day – September 30th

Parkland will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day on Wednesday, September 30th Orange Shirt Day was introduced in 2013 and designed to educate people and promote awareness in Canada about the Indian residential school system and the impact it has had on Indigenous communities for over a century—an impact that continues today

Students and staff will be encouraged to wear Orange Shirts on September 30th and we will be doing some activities designed to educate and encourage kindness towards everyone.

For more information, please visit the Orange Shirt Day website here: ORANGE SHIRT DAY

Fraser Health School Exposure Information

There has been some misinformation about what happens if there is school exposure – I encourage you to read the Fraser Health website by following the link HERE for information about what Fraser Health does it the event of exposure to Covid-19 in a public or school setting.

Although it's uncomfortable to think or talk about, the unknown can fuel a lot of anxiety. It's important to stay informed about the procedures and protocols in place to keep everyone safe right now.

Absences

A reminder to please let us know if your child will be absent. You can do this one of two ways:

  1. Using the Quick Links – Absence Report on the Parkland Homepage found here: PARKLAND ABSENCE REPORT
  2. Calling the school at 604-939-1151 and leaving a message or letting our secretary know in the morning after 8:00 AM.

Vandal Watch

Even though our school is located in one of the most beautiful areas in the Lower Mainland, Parkland isn't immune to vandalism. If you notice any suspicious activity in the evening around the school, please call the Vandal Watch Tip Line at 604-927-7600 (see the information below).

Dressing for the Weather

Children will be playing outside at recess and lunch time, rain or shine. Please send your children with appropriate outdoor wear (including footwear) for the weather. Rain boots, rain pants, hats and umbrellas can help children enjoy their outdoor time even more. A change of clothes would also be helpful for some students. Even on rainy days and snowy days, the fresh air break is very beneficial for children's physical and mental health, especially right now where more outdoor play is encouraged.
