To improve students’ reading skills and attitudes.
The goal we have been focused on for the past number of years has been to improve student's writing skills. Although this continues to be important to us, we believe that 'reading' is now a bigger concern for us accross all grades.
Our focus on writing has been succesful in that we have noted an improvement in the results we are getting with various student cohorts. Also, we believe the professional development focus placed on writing over the years (pro-d days, learning teams, literacy / learning support teachers, etc.) has raised our awarenss and professional repetoire so that we can now shift focus to reading.
We believe writing and reading are interrelated, and in some ways we believe focusing on reading will help our students take another step forward in their writing skills and abilities as well.
