Daily Announcements- 28-April-2021

April 28, 2021

Please welcome to Moody our visitors for today. We hope you have a good day with us. We are fortunate to have the support of Ms. Read, Mr. Odin, Mr. Poblete and Ms. Yu!

Reminders from Ms. Jung:

Being safe is our number one priority now. Thank you for masking up whenever on school property, before, during and after school. We have asked that you head for home immediately after school and keep your distance from others not in your learning group as best you can at all times so we can be as safe as possible. While it seems like many of our parents, staff and adults in our lives have been getting vaccinations, the vaccines are not fully effective for 2-3 weeks after the initial dose and a booster will not be received until late summer. Regardless, we all continue to follow the same practices we have been!

Soap and physical distance are two other protocols we have in place that are effective in keeping us safe. Washing our hands before and after we eat, before entering our classroom as well as shared learning spaces is a must these days, for example. Thanks for taking the time to be kind, responsible and respectful.

National Day of Mourning

Today is an important day. Across Canada, on April 28th every year, we recognize-- National Day of Mourning-- to honour workers who have been killed, injured or who have suffered illness as a result of work-related incidents. You may have noticed this morning that our flag has been lowered to half mast to observe this important day. Since 1997, the BC Federation of Labour, the Business Council of British Columbia, and WorkSafeBC have co-hosted a public commemorative ceremony for the Day of Mourning in Vancouver. In 2001, WorkSafeBC, the BC Federation of Labour, and the Business Council of British Columbia dedicated a permanent workers' memorial in the Sanctuary in Hastings Park, Vancouver. Most of us are not aware that there are approximately 45 permanent worker memorial sites sponsored by WorkSafeBC in BC. At 11 a.m. today, we will pause to honour those who lost their lives due to workplace incidences, led by Mr. Clay. Thank you.

Administrative Assistants' Day!

We've saved the best for last today! In Canada, the last Wednesday in April is known as Administrative Assistants' Day! We are always grateful for the work that Mrs. De Groot, Ms. Taylor-Hill and Ms. McClellan in the office do to support us and today, we take time to recognize them for their efforts from all year long! High fives to them for always making us look good, especially Mr. Clay and Ms. Jung! High fives to them for helping us ensure our daily routines run smoothly! They are our front-line workers who do so much more than communicate between parents, staff and students!

We appreciate you all and hope your day is brighter than all the stars that are our students! :)
