STUDENT VOTE: The results are in for the Student Vote, and both in our school and in all of the Student Vote results for Port Moody-Coquitlam, Rick Glumac of the BC NDP has been re-elected. Here at EMMSOTA, Rick Glumac won 156 votes, with John Latimer of the BC Green Party coming in second with 85 votes, and James Robertson of the BC Liberal Party third with 49 votes. Brandon Fonseca of the BC Conservatives won 14 votes, and Logan Smith of the Libertarian Party won 12 votes. Across Port Moody-Coquitlam and across BC, the Student Vote results are similar to the results at our school. If the Student Vote was deciding the election, then the NDP would have won in 59 electoral districts, followed by the Green Party in 16 and the Liberals in 12. Thank you to all students who voted on Thursday, and to teachers for facilitating the process and helping their students learn about the candidates and parties. In terms of the actual election, the initial results for the general election show the NDP leading in 55 electoral districts, the Liberals leading in 29, and the Green Party in 3. Here in Port Moody-Coquitlam Rick Glumac of the NDP is leading the vote count to be re-elected as MLA. The interesting thing is that only about two-thirds of the ballots cast by actual adult voters have been counted so far, because of the huge number of mail-in ballots used in this election, so the final results won't be available for almost three weeks! If the final results don't change much in terms of the number of MLAs elected from each party, the NDP will form a strong majority government, with the Liberals having their lowest number of MLAs in almost 30 years, and the Green Party keeping the same number of MLAs but with the change of having finally won a seat on the mainland instead of Vancouver Island. This has been a historic election for a number of reasons!
