Grade 5 Calendar of Events for Parents (April, May, June 2022)

April 19, 2022

Welcome to ÉCOLE MOODY MIDDLE SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

Grade 5 (and new students) Articulation Calendar of Events for Parents – April 2022

Welcome parents and guardians of future Grade 6 students to École Moody Middle School of the Arts.

We are very excited and proud to welcome you to the middle school years in our beautiful building.  Over the coming weeks we will be providing opportunities for you and your child to become familiar with learning at middle school. Our goal is to ensure every student has a smooth transition to École Moody Middle School of the Arts and is able to feel comfortable here so that they can learn, play and grow to become the best people they can be over their 30 months of middle school.

On the road to building a positive culture within École Moody Middle School of the Arts, parent involvement will be an essential part of your child's success.  We hope that you will include the activities below in your spring plans.

Parent and Child Virtual Open House on Zoom:

Wednesday April 20th @ 6:30 pm

Parents, along with their child are invited to join Mr. Clay and Ms. Jung on a Zoom call to hear all about what to expect in Grade 6 at École Moody Middle School of the Arts.  An overview of “All Things Moody" will be provided and there will be an opportunity to ask some questions of some of our student leaders.

Admin Road Trip April (April 25th to 29th)

Mr. Clay usually likes to get around to our elementary feeder schools to say hello and greet some of our future students.  This year we hope to visit a few of our main feeder schools in person or plan to join some of the students virtually in class if we can or if we are able to pop by the schools in June we will do so.

Student Articulation (May 2-6th )

Teachers will be meeting online between May 2-6th to articulate your children to middle school.  This year we will be asking parents and students to complete and on-line survey that provides more information about your child's learning needs. We will send the link out to all of you via email in April and ask that you complete the survey before Friday, May 6th, 2022. Stay tuned for the link to the Forms Survey.

Grade 6 Virtual Tour of EMMSOTA (June 2, 2022)

Again this year we will be posting an updated Virtual Tour of our beautiful school with commentary from current EMMSOTA leadership students. Our students will be sharing some of their experiences over the past couple of years here at École Moody Middle School of the Arts. Much of the tour will be showing you some of our fabulous learning spaces and places in and around our building. We are still considering if we might host an in person “Grade 6 for Half Day" event, where our future Grade 6 students will come to the school for a morning of orientation and fun. In past years we have also hosted an end of summer open house walkabout for new students in late August. Stay tuned for more information to come on in person events.

Home/School Communication

During this transition period we invite parents and students to find and bookmark our website: http://www.sd43.bc.ca/School/moody/Pages/default.aspx#/=  and visit frequently as you get to know us. Also, during this transition period, our primary means of communicating with all families will be by email. If your email changes, please contact our school office at moodymiddlesecretary@sd43.bc.ca to ensure we can stay in touch (parent emails have already been transferred to us electronically).

If you have questions or concerns about the transition process, please network with your elementary school Teachers and Principal, first.  Further inquiries about École Moody Middle School of the Arts and transitioning to Grade 6 are always welcome. Please contact: Principal Mark Clay, mclay@sd43.bc.ca.  or Vice Principal Kathryn Jung,  kjung@sd43.bc.ca

School Supplies

In late May, we will be posting our 2022-23 school supply list on website. For your convenience, families will have the option to order school supplies through School Start School Start Back to School Supplies.  At that time, orders can be placed directly online with our new supply vendor School  Start.

École Moody Middle School of the Arts is a BYODBring Your Own Device," school. We ask families to send a device to school each day to be used in learning activities.  There are a limited number of school-owned devices that can be signed out for students who are in need. Please contact the Mr. Clay or your child's teacher in September if you feel your child will need one of our BYOD loaner devices. Ideally every student is able to access all of our learning opportunities with their own device.

Device Suggestions

We strongly encourage parents and students to take time to research and sample the different devices that are available. We have learned that a student device becomes very personalized, and that their learning and willingness to use technology increases when they feel comfortable with their device.

A laptop is our recommended device. A keyboard is very effective when writing and producing documents. Devices with USB ports are valuable for data transfer and printing. A light, small computer fits best on the student desk, and fits easily in student lockers.

Please review the device recommendations below.
