From Mr. Macmillan:
I have told the students that we are aware of the student walk-out being discussed for Wednesday, June 5th. The information I have provided is as follows:
1. It is a regular school day, and we are expecting kids to be in class
2. If students are considering 'walking out', they should discuss what it means and why they are doing it with their parents.
3. If students leave the building for a walkout, it is our responsibility to ensure their safety. They are not all teenagers, and we feel responsible for them until they arrive home at the end of the day. For this reason, we will call home if any student leaves the school grounds and is no longer under the supervision of an administrator.
4. If students remain out of class past nutrition break. We will follow up with parents letting them know how much school time was missed.
Please note, I support students acting to make their voice heard. I am not supporting nor condoning their actions. I am also not judging each of them on the intention and/or sincerity of their actions. What I am doing is ensuring their safety and encouraging their communication with parents on this complex issue.
