CRE Parents/Guardians,
Please note the following updates:
Tues. Apr. 22 is Earth Day, and we are celebrating in three ways:
- it is Recycling Day. All students are invited to wear something (e.g., a hat, jewellery) they've made out of recyclables. Hint: milk jugs are a great starting point for a hat.
> - we are participating in the national Turn Out the Lights Day by focussing on conserving electricity. We will be extra careful about turning out lights in empty rooms. Maybe you'd like to participate at home too.
> - we are encouraging students to bring a "Litterless Lunch". This means using reusable plastic containers rather than plastic/foil bags and packaging. This makes a huge difference in the amount of landfill waste generated at a school.
Please support our three-day Bake Sale, Wed. April 23 through Fri. April 25. All proceeds will go to the Build A School campaign in Haiti by Free The Children. http://www.freethechildren.com/international-programming/where-we-work/haiti/. The Bake Sale will happen at lunch time all three days and is being organized by our inCREdibles student leadership students in concert with a local high school's Social Justice program.
I have pasted below our Track & Field Schedule for the coming weeks. It's wonderful to see so many Grade 3, 4, and 5 students participating!
Last night at the School Board budget meeting the trustees were presented with proposed cuts in order to address the $13.4 Million deficit projected for 2014/2015. Among the many staffing and operations cuts proposed is bussing transportation throughout the district. If approved by the trustees this will affect all students who have been riding the school bus to or from school. You can learn more about the proposed cuts at http://www.sd43.bc.ca/budget/Pages/default.aspx under Budget Recommendations on page 28. Opportunities for public input will be:
April 22nd Preliminary Budget Presentation. 7:00 pm at Winslow Centre. The Board of Education is presented with a preliminary budget for deliberation at this special public board meeting.
April 29th Final Budget Presentation. 7:00 pm at Winslow Centre. The Board of Education is presented with a final budget for deliberation at this regularly-scheduled public board meeting.
