Maillard Middle School is a dual track English and French Immersion School. This allows students to take core classes (Social Studies, Humanities, Mathematics, and Science) in the language of their program choice. About 30% of our students have been in an immersion program since Kindergarten.
In 2011/2012 school year, Maillard is offering English and French Immersion blended 6/7 classes and blended French Grade 7/8 classes and straight English Grade 8 classes. The classes are divided into 4 teams: two teams of three English Grade 6/7 divisions, one Grade 8 team of three divisions and one French Immersion team of three Grade 6/7 divisions and two blended 7/8 classes.
Maillard Middle is currently completing its seismic upgrade construction.
Students at Maillard Middle are divided into 4 Advisory houses. All students are in Advisory for 2 - 17 minute blocks every week within their house. With your advisory, students participate in intramurals and special event days, such as Magic Olympiad and Sports Day. Maillard also sponsors Club Days, where students participate in an activity of their choice such as swimming, skating, mountain biking, scrapbooking, floor hockey, and many more.
Explorations are offered to all students, and the classes are conducted in English. All students go to one Exploration class for each term. Our Exploration classes are Home Arts, Music, and Technology Education. We offer conputer skills integration with a Technology support teacher.
