tagged - A Green Thumb Theatre PresentationUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).

Green Thumb Theatre is presenting tagged to our school on Friday, February 6th, 2015. This is a play about the use of social media among today’s youth, and we encourage all parents to download the teacher’s guide from our website and discuss the content with their children as the play includes some strong language and mature content.

We also invite all interested parents to attend the performance. Please arrive at 9:15 am so we can all be seated in time for the 9:30 am start. The presentation is slated to last for one hour.

Social media is becoming a growing concern. We encourage you to talk with your children and help them to become informed users.

tagged Synopsis:

Online. Out of line.

The anonymous online world gives us permission to say and do things we would never do in real life.

But where do we draw the line between fun and maliciousness? The harsh realities of cyberbullying and what happens when we’re discovered come to a head in tagged.

As an Officer investigates Jerri and Webber, two young adults, in the incessant online harassment of a fellow student, not all is as it appears to be. Do these teens actually understand the consequences of their actions? Or have they even caught the right people?

How responsible are we for the words that we type and what they lead others to do?

Torn from the headlines, tagged dissects the dangerous potential for harm that exists between social media and young minds.

Teens for JeansUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).

Students are bringing Teens For Jeans 2015 to our school! We are running a used jeans drive at our school to donate jeans to homeless youth in Canada.

We will accept any used jeans - coloured, capris, special washes - from now until Friday, February 13th.

Please put your jeans in the pit area in your team box, and remember to record how many jeans you donated on the sheet in front of the boxes.

If you do not wish to donate jeans, please support us by donating money so we can buy secondhand jeans.

The top donators (money or jeans) will receive a $25 gift card to a place of their choice, and a few others will be picked from a draw to receive a special prize.

Oh, and did we mention that the top donating team will win a pizza party for their whole team?

Thank you for your support!

Pink Shirt DayUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Anti-Bullying Day is fast approaching. Citadel Peer Facilitators came around to your classes to promote Terry Fox' t-shirt for this year's Pink Day. T-Fox's Leadership classes have designed new pink shirts with black text, "Stand Up to Bullying", with the hopes of raising awareness and money to provide needed funds to the Kidsport Program here in the Tri-Cities.
In case you missed it, there is an example shirt hanging in the main office window. You can also pick up order forms at the office. Order forms need to be returned to the school no later than January 30th.
SD43 is going green!Use SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
School District 43 is going Green! “Food isn’t waste, so put it in its place” Starting January 2015, School District No.43 (Coquitlam) is joining Municipalities, public and private organizations throughout Metro Vancouver to reduce waste in local landfills. School District No.43 (Coquitlam) is taking action and enforcing the mandate of recycling all organic waste in all District schools, buildings and locations. Bins are presently being rolled out, and staff and students are preparing for the changes. Important in the process is shifting behavior. To do this, the Board of Education is proud to support our “Organic Recycling Awareness Campaign”. In this campaign we will disseminate information via school newsletter, social media, digital creatives and scheduled “green focused” events. This campaign will focus on informing students, parents, staff and the community about the on-going effort our schools are contributing to this mandate. Please watch for further information about organic waste recycling in your area. If you would like to volunteer to support your neighbourhood school with their green waste transition, please contact your school administrator.
